FX Plugs Boost Luma Dip Chroma
Posted by John Fishback on November 11, 2008 at 11:21 pmI’ve just noticed that all my FxPlugins boost the in & out-going clips luma and dip the chroma during the transition. I’ve trashed prefs & repaired permissions. I have plugins from Core Melt, CHV, NI and IR. Any ideas what might be happening?

November 12, 2008 at 3:11 pmOverlays were on, but with no overlays selected. I switched overlays off and rerendered to no avail. FX Factory is v2.0.5, Polychrome v1.1, ImageFlow v2.5. This is happening to all the FxPlugs. Older FXScript transitions work fine.

November 12, 2008 at 10:40 pmDoes this also happen when you use the internal FxPlug plugins of FCP ?
and: Does this also happen when you use Motion and use the same plugins ?
I think that there is a chance that the graphics card is damaged, as especially FxPlug plugins heavily use the graphics card to render.

December 3, 2008 at 6:21 pmChristoph, I replaced the 3870 with the 2600 video card and the same luma boost/chroma dip happened. Is it more likely this is an issue with FCP & FX Factory or the OS or both?

I don’t think that there is something wrong with OSX. It is more likely that FCP is “messed up”.
You said that you have the problem with all FxPlug plugins from all developers. This points to a damaged FCP installation, as we now found out that it is not your 3870 graphics card. A clean FCP re-install would be my next suggestion.

December 3, 2008 at 9:25 pmThanks, Christoph. I’ll do a clean re-install of FCP. That’s a lot better than starting from scratch with the OS. Thanks for all your help. You’re the best.

December 14, 2008 at 8:13 pmFinal Report (I hope). I reinstalled Leopard and FCP and the issue is resolved. FXPlug transitions work as expected. I’m in the process of reinstalling all my plugins. I’m checking FCP after each install to see if a third-party program might have caused the problem.
