We couldn’t be happier with our 500. We’re coming up on having it 2 years and it’s met every challenge. It’s one of those rare purchases where the product exceeds every expectation. Just did a job with a client from CA and he raved about the images.

Have you tried Send to Motion. Or you could try exporting using the Animation codec (that has an alpha channel). I’ve never done this as I’d do the key in Motion. The keyer there is much better than FCP’s.

  • Here’s another option for connecting naked SATA drives to your edit computer https://www.newertech.com/products/voyagerq.php

I just bought a Voyager Q with a Hitachi 1 TB SATA drive for $180. Additional Hitachi 1TB drives are $90. It’s a great (and fast) way to archive projects.

And how are you viewing the results – on your computer, through a broadcast monitor, etc.

In FCP6 try Smoothcam. AfterFX has image stabilization and there are others out there – try lyric.com. I have no idea which would be best for your situation. There are probably demos you can download,

April 1, 2009 at 3:11 am in reply to: Audio capture/recording

Ty is correct about your OS (and file system) causing the 2GB limit. The good news is that 2GB is a lot of audio.

I’m not completely sure of your question, but if it is what audio software records in real time so when you click stop there’s a file ready to use, there are many answers. Pro Tools LE is an excellent tool, but you need an interface device between your computer and audio feed or microphones. In fact PT is often bundled with those interfaces. Check out MBox. There are a number of flavors at various prices.

You can also record with just your computer and drive using Quicktime Pro which would result in a useable file as soon as you stopped the recording. I think it costs $30.

Either solution’s files can be edited in almost any DAW.

I’m not sure what would happen if you reached 2GB and didn’t stop the recording/capture. You can limit PT. I’m not sure about QT.

I’m not clear on the relationship between the 3 tracks. When you click on one of the tracks are all selected?

Many cameras have built-in limiters, but they have to be turned on. You should check to see if your camera has that capability.
