I I go from DVCPro HD to flv all the time. From FCP I export a ref video same settings and then use Squeeze 5 to encode. You could use other Flash encoders as well. This works equally well for 23.976 and 29.97 source. What’s your workflow?

In FCP double-click the clip in the timeline and in the Motion tab of the Viewer open the Time Remap twirly and set the time to 8:00. Make sure Frame Blending is on. Then render.

I just ran into a problem with a 24P DVD.I had shot DVCPro HD 720 24PN and edited in a 23.976 timeline. Then I encoded a 24P mv2 using BitVice. I saw a 23.976 to 29.97 preset, but no true 23.976 preset so I made my own and encoded.

When I tried to import that into DVD Studio Pro I got an error. I then encoded the file with Compressor set to 23.976 and it worked. I emailed BitVice and quickly was informed by Roger Andersson that DVDSP doesn’t work with 23.978, only 29.97. I never had heard that before. Compressor was actually adding pulldown when making its supposed 23.976. I tried BitVice again using the 23.976 to 29.97 preset and DVDSP was happy.

So I guess the bottom line is if you’re ending up with a DVD and using DVDSP, you may as well work in 29.97 (24 over 60i) since you’re going to have to add the pulldown later.

There’s no perfect solution I know of (maybe the NSA) that will do what you want. You can process the audio to make it sound better with EQ, compression, noise reduction, etc., but nothing will make the sound of the room and the distant audio perspective go away. I suggest you check if the sound company who provided your feed might also have recoded the event. In my experience they usually do. If so, that should help you out.

You have said a couple of times the FAT32 formatted on a Mac has no file limitation. As Jeremy said earlier, that is not true. It won’t write files bigger than 4GB. Now, I’m not an IS expert, but if the video fo;der has clips that total over 4GB the folder probably won’t be written. Certainly any files over 4GB won’t be written. If you’re transferring a partially filled P2and the total size is under 4GB then it will work.

I’ve never gotten the auto selects to work consistently. However, if you want video from a clip without its audio to be edited, click the audio destination control buttons (2 buttons to the left of auto select) next to the source control buttons and the source control separates from the destination control. Then, only the video will be edited. Conversely, if you only want the audio to be edited click the video destination control (V1) which opens up the video source control and only the audio will be edited. Hope this helps.

Try exporting a reference movie from FCP. Then bring that into Compressor. Sending to Compressor from FCP has been known to cause problems.

A couple of things. When you exported from FCP you should Export Quicktime Use Current Settings and not check Recompress All Frames.

I’m assuming that DSP is DVD Studio Pro. While DVDSP allows you to encode you shouldn’t use it that way. Use Compressor. Also your data rate is way to high for a DVD. The maximum allowable rate is around 10mbps. In practice most people set the upper limit to 8mbps or less. That allows space for the audio. If you use ac3 (and you should) you might be able to push a but higher, but you don’t need to for excellent imagery.

In Compressor choose the DVD: Best Quality 90 minutes preset and you’ll get very good images the way it is. Also in Compressor is an ac3 preset, but you’ll have to change some settings for it to work properly. Highlight the ac3 preset and in the Inspector click the Encoder tab and then the Audio tab. Make sure the data rate is 192kbps and change -27 to -31 in the Dialog Normalization field. Then click the Preprocessing tab and change the Compression Prest to None.

Once your files are encoded import them to DVDSP and you should be good. You can find more info about this in the Apple DVD Studio pro forum on the COW.
