I see nothing wrong with charging for music you include in your edit. In fact, it’s important to do so. Your clients should learn it costs to use music. At least in a professional context. You will eventually have a case where the music you own doesn’t contain an appropriate track for a project. Then, you (and your client) will have to pay for new music anyway. We pay a monthly license fee to Killer Tracks to have unlimited access to their music library for our projects. We don’t charge by needle drops. We charge according to the amount (time) of music used. We might use one track looped to five minutes or 10 tracks totaling five minutes and the cost would be the same.

Sounds like it should work. Just set your sound out in system prefs to line out or internal speakers. Occasionally I have to open up the sound system prefs and reset them. Then it works.

I did a couple of tests to look at mv2s made by Compressor and BitVice using MediaInfo. (23.98 is shorthand for 23.976.)

Compressor
23.98 chosen as the frame rate in the Video Format tab of the Encoder – mv2 shows as 29.97 with pulldown in MediaInfo
29.97 chosen as frame rate shows as 29.97 with no pulldown.

BitVice
23.98 mv2 shows as 23.98 with no pulldown. DVDSP rejects this mv2 as a non-standard format which it is. DVD players will only play files they recognize as 29.97.
29.97 mv2 shows as 23.98 with pulldown which is why it’s accepted in DVDSP

It’s my guess (I don’t know this for certain) that for a frame rate of 23.98, Compressor is using a similar process to BV, just reporting differently. When BV makes a 23.98 mv2, it really is 23.98, not 23.98 with pulldown flags set.

Line up the new audio in sync with the original video clip and its audio. Then, unmerge the original audio & video and then merge the new audio with the video.

I’m still not sure what you’re asking, but I’ll take a crack at it. When you have your clip in FCP you can export it in many ways. Using QuickTime Conversion you can export audio as aiff. If it’s stereo in FCP it will be stereo when exported.

You can either use the aiff audio in DVDSP or a better approach is to first convert the aiff to ac3 (Dolby) in Compressor. However, be sure to search for how to do that (I know it’s covered in the DVDSP forum) as the basic preset in Compressor has to be adjusted. It’s best to use ac3 in DBDs as it’s only 192 kbps compared to the aiff which is approx. 1500 kbps which takes up more space on the DVD and is harder for the DVD player to playback. I hope this helps.

Try exporting the shrunk & bordered pic, then import that and place it on v1. Then put the LiveType on v2. You could also try making a freeze frame of the shrunk & bordered pic and do the same thing.

Yes, and you use Log & Transfer to do this.

Yes.

No need to do that. Just use one of the existing Compressor presets. I use Compressor and BitVice for encoding mv2s. The DVD spec requires 29.97 for playback so the encoder sets flags so the actual 23.98 frames get played out at 29.97 (the player adds pulldown). An advantage of this method as opposed to making a 29.97 mv2 is you save space on the DVD. The media is actually 23.98, but the player “sees” it as 29.97.
