I’m not sure what kind of computer and software you have, but making a DVD from the P2 files is relatively easy (if you have Final Cut or equivalent). Off-load the P2 to a hard drive. Shotput is an excellent program for that, but Panasonic’s P2CMS software will do the same for free. Then log & transfer the file to FCP (this makes a QT file). From there you can trim and cleanup the program and export a file that can be encoded. If you use Compressor, you can give it an HD file to make an SD DVD. Other encoding solutions probably will do the same.

I keep everything on my system drive. I’m not sure if you’d hurt anything with prefs and autosave on the RAID, but Compressor (as with all apps) should be on the system drive.

Here’s an excellent tutorial explaining how to capture HDV to ProRes over FW. Simply adapt it to DV. You need only change a few settings to DV and it should work. If you need step-by-step instructions, search the Cow I’m sure you’ll find the exact workflow you need.

I think there’s a Trails filter in FCP that might work. I’m not at my office so I can’t check, but if you can’t find it try Google. I’m sure it’ll pop up.

Is this happening at a cut? If so, apply a 2-frame dissolve on the audio tracks across the cut. You may not have to do that on all tracks. Also, try a mixdown audio. Choose Sequence > Render Only > Mixdown (or pressCommand-Option-R). This creates a render file of your timeline audio. It makes no change to your actual tracks.

I agree with the above. When I upgraded I kept my old system drive intact and installed 7 on a fresh drive. I, too, had no problems after the upgrade.

You start with an image that’s bigger than your frame size. That allows space to zoom in, pan, etc. In FCP you can set keyframes in the motion tab. However, FCP is challenging to get good results. It’s better to do this in Motion. If you search the Cow you’ll find posts and tutorials. Also, Digital Heaven has a plugin called DH_Box which is a handy tool that works inside FCP. Many folks do this work in AfterFX which affords excellent control.

Deinterlacing will negatively the resolution of your clips. Why aren’t you using Compressor? If you turn on Frame Controls and choose higher quality settings than the defaults you should have better results. What’s the final use and what will it be viewed on? Also, what did you do that the quality was bad before you tried to deinterlace?
