Yes, convert. H.264 is not an edit codec. Most folks will probably recommend converting those files to ProRes. Your life will be much easier editing just one codec in FCP. You can use Compressor or MPEG Streamclip (a free download) to make the conversions. Change everything into the same frame rate, frame size and codec.

There are a couple of plugins for Firefox (Download Helper is one) that let you download the video file directly. I’ve captured as Matt suggests (I use ScreenFlow), but IMHO a direct download results in higher quality. Also, be aware of any copyright issues.

In my experience, most Flash animators work at 10 or 12fps. He probably used the default by mistake. You might try to change the frame rate with Compressor. Be sure to turn on Frame Controls and select best for rate-conversion. 10 to 30 is a big jump, so it still might not look very smooth.

I always export a QT at current settings (I like self-contained vs. ref) and bring that into Compressor (or other encoder). Over the years there have been different reasons to do that. My main reason is Compressor can use all 8 cores that way.

Double-click the clip then open the Motion tab in the Viewer. Adjust the image size there. You can keyframe the change as well. You will find a lot more info in the manual. There’s a lot you can do in the Motion tab.

The camera can do certain repairs to clips on a P2 card. Some third-party software can do similar. P2CMS probably does, but I don’t use that and am not sure. It is quite possible the producer managed to delete yhe files from the drive. You can do that with L&T. If that’s the case there’s no recovery. Search the Cow for P2 repair. I’m sure many posts will show up.

In the field we use HD Log to play the front and back of every P2 clip after it’s transferred to a mirrored RAID (and a separate single drive) and before the card is reformatted. It’s an IT workflow. You can’t be too careful.
