  • ENCODING workflow question?

    Hi
I have FCP 6.06, compressor and Telestream episode.

I have a question about workflow, I have had a few problems with the window insert for episode and it failing to recognise changes i make in it. I have to resize all my work from 1080 to a 640×480 window. some i letterbox some i crop.

    My general encoding question is..

Is it better to make a QT movie of your project then take that directly into compressor or episode?

what are the advantages and disadvantages in terms of time, and quality?

    thanks for any insight.

I always export a QT at current settings (I like self-contained vs. ref) and bring that into Compressor (or other encoder). Over the years there have been different reasons to do that. My main reason is Compressor can use all 8 cores that way.
