Compressor for iphone
Posted by Jacques Hinkle on March 8, 2010 at 11:03 pmHi,
I’ve been trying all day and haven’t been able to figure out how to create video for the iphone that plays full screen when it’s zoomed out. Basically I don’t want to see black anywhere around the frame ever.
is this an aspect ratio/cropping issue? Any input is great appreciated!!I’m using final cut studio 2
Thanks!!

March 8, 2010 at 11:41 pmThanks for your reply! CS2 does have presets for the iphone. I tried changing them to what your response showed and when the view is zoomed out it still shows black on the top and bottom of the screen. Basically I can’t have black anywhere when zoomed out.
I really appreciate your help John!
Thanks,

March 9, 2010 at 12:03 amI think you are trying to defeat a feature that is built into the iPhone QT player.
When playing back video the QT has 2 settings full view which gives you the true 16:9 image with the letterbox or zoomed in, which crops off the left and right to fill the tip and bottom without distortion. Cause the screen is neither 4:3 or 16:9. I’m probably telling you something you already know but for others.
The iPhone screen is 480×320 so have you tried that? If that doesn’t help you maybe fighting against the software itself.

March 9, 2010 at 9:56 amWas going to add that the iPhone screen is 480-by-320-pixel, not 320×240.
25 / 30 fps, 480×320 pixles at below 1.5Mbit/s will run on the iPhone with ease.
As mentioned above, the iPhone-screen as a 1.5:1 aspect ratio, so either 1.78:1 (i.e. 16×9) nor 1.33:1 (i.e. 4×3). To accommodate this you will have to crop some of your base material.
