Honestly, it’s apples and oranges compared to our other system’s Kona 3. It’s frame accurate and works with my decks without a hitch. The HDMI is nice so I can watch 1080p now. I guess if I worked 2k the Kona would rock that fine.
The trick is just understanding how to manage it, just like learning how to deal with AJA’s Control Panel took a little time. Like I said, Apple and Oranges.

Probably 90% of people on the cow are using desktop drives in their RAIDs, including myself – so don’t beat yourself up too much. I’d say a bigger issue is that you’re using Seagate drives. ST33000651AS is the new 3TB drive, right? I’ve been bitten by Seagate before – many times – especially with newer/larger drives that are not as well proven. About 3 years ago I ran into nothing but trouble with their 1.5tb drives in a ProAvio array. The drives had a lag and all kinds of fun little errors that Seagate refused to acknowledge for quite a while. I ended up shipping them back and replacing with 1TB WD Caviar Black drives, which are still rocking out in RAID5 to this day.
I’m sure others can list just as many problems with Hitachi and WD, but there are many of us here who avoid Seagate. I’ve just seen too many of those drives die. Your array should be just fine, even with Deskstars or Caviar Blacks. The Seagate’s are where I’d look for trouble. You may have had your heart set on all those Terabytes in an affordable array – but better to get something a little smaller and more proven and save yourself some grief.

Rick, your prefs are still here. In terminal type in “chflags nohidden /users/**username**/library” and your library folder reappears.
I just brought up two leopard systems this week. Quicken and office 2004 is out (I prefer iWork anyways, and Intuit products are terrible across macs).
Our Black Magic Studio works fine – digitized and laid back. AJA drivers are also up to date with Lion. Parallels needs an update ($40) to the latest is you run any windows. All my stuff seems to be working find, CS5, FCP, FCPX etc. 1Password seems to be working fine now – so you missed all their update issues. The App store will update a few things maybe. It’s really not that bad as it’s made to seem – we just did standard installs over Snow Leopard production machines. The world didn’t end :).

Willy, there are times when splitting data files into two parts is very useful, not only for FAT32 Hard Drive storage, but also for uploading massive files in chunks, like via YouSendIt with a 2gb limit.
There’s a little app that I use occasionally for this called Chop DMG. It breaks a large DMG file into several segments, which then recombine when they’re all downloaded on the other side.
Google can help you build a DMG file, and I’m not sure how you’ll want to handle moving to a PC from a Mac using this (can PC’s open DMG?), but this might put you on the right path to what you’re looking for.

I ended up getting the Studio Decklink thing and shelving the Intensity Pro for now. Kind of a waste, but maybe it’ll come in handy in the future.

After download but before installing, copy the ‘install lion’ application that gets downloaded to your applications folder. Take that ‘install lion’ app and copy it to a thumb drive. If you don’t copy it to the desktop, it gets deleted during install.
As long as you’re copying to a mac with the same app store login, (like if you have two macs), you’re fine. If you were to install it on a mac with a different app store login, I believe it might charge whatever account is logged in to the App Store, regardless of who downloaded it. It does some verification check at the beginning of install.
That may, however, be part of my developer copy. I had to do that procedure last night as I was missing the gesture demo videos in sys prefs for some reason.
Apple should just give the software away.
All of our macs are lion now – even the production machines. FCP7 seems snappier now. I may be crazy.

We use Hostgator and get about 600kbs upload speeds via Transmit, uses wordpress, etc. We use Google Apps for our email hosting, which is fantastic. HostGator’s push email isn’t so great, but Google Apps works fine with it. Also, it’s like, 8 bucks a month or something. Stupid cheap.
