Two things are going to have to happen on any new install:

1. It’s going to be sluggish for a few hours while the revamped spotlight reindexes your entire hard drive. When you see the dot in the spotlight and everything is slow – that’s why. Go have some coffee and throw a ball with your kids. It’ll be better soon.

2. You need to run disk utility on the OS drive and repair permissions. This should be done on the install, but it ain’t. Had an old macbook pro that was almost useless till we did that, now it’s heaven.

I think the #1 thing I like about it are the improvements to mail.app.

Some new iMacs came with SL installed on them and but offered a free download of Lion. Now all iMacs are Lion, so your only bet would be to install SL off of a bootable disk from one of those particular iMacs that can with SL, or from a SL disk that was released after that particular iMac came out.

And obviously you know this, but an older SL disk won’t install on a newer mac due to drivers, etc. Sucks that your client doesn’t have FCP7. Maybe ebay it?

all the computers would share one library and all be updated. Are you just looking to sync 3 libraries up? In our office, we just update a single machine and then every few months replace the other libraries. Then NAS at home is what we use with our laptops and iTunes server, mostly.

I feel like iTunes needs to stop forcing these workarounds. You may be able to use spotify to do what you’re looking to do.

Itunes has an ‘automatically add to library’ folder that can have items dragged into and automatically imported into the iTunes library.

We use a NAS 2tb RAID 1 Synology 2 drive server (2 x 2tb drives, 1 operating as a RAID backup of the other). It has an iTunes server built in. If you connect via gigabit ethernet to all systems, you’ll basically have a mounted drive on all edit systems. All systems can mount the server via finder and drag files directly into this ‘add to library’ folder on the server, and iTunes will scan it when it’s open and import it.

1 caveat – iTunes won’t let multiple users open iTunes simultaneously. One system at a time can open it. But you probably are aware of that.

I googled and read that Ken Stone link. It’s completely wrong, but they cleared it up later in the thread. FCS3 installs on Lion mac’s with no problem. There is no rosetta requirement to install FCS3 – the poster was confused and thinking about FCS2, which came out years ago.

Lion is a new OS, it’s going to have some annoying quirks till around 10.7.4 but we used FCS3 all day today. It’s good to go.

Obviously, make sure you Auto Save is pretty frequent. Newer systems can make more crashes than more stable ones, but you won’t have an installation problem. If you do have a crash, a frequent autosaves will help mitigate them.

Running on two systems. One with aja and one with black magic. All good. Aja drivers work but aren’t perfect. It’s fine for editing though.

Multiple users issues are documented all over the cow and the inter webs – I’m just pointing out a little bug for AJA. Sorry man – I don’t have time to get into all that :).

The AJA preferences bug I originally referenced is not a huge problem, but when dumping out of FCP into another program, it’s jarring when all the monitors jump and flash into color bars instead of holding the last frame of video out of FCP. I’m sure it’ll be fixed soon – everything else seems fine via Lion/FCP/AJA.

It’s a terrible idea to have multiple users on a mac pro with shared storage. There is only a single account, with full admin privs.
