yes, one of the animation layers is underneath the black solid layer without any masking applied to it at all, that’s were the outline is coming from, but im moving a shadow across the scene, so i need the layer there for the effect…
also the reason i am using 3d is because i panned the camera at an unusual angle, and i wanted the wings to have some depth without keyframing it too much, once it became a 2d scene i just kept the 3d layers so that i could cut the scene up without all parts getting all wonky
i did find a solution, i used the set matte effect instead, but i still kinda like using track mattes, so i wouldn’t mind getting a solution for using that method still. but at least its not “omg nothing working” bad anymore.
oh also the original footage is white

I took a look at that, and that’s not quite what I’m looking to be able to do, its got the transition part, but its missing the part were the particles reform into something else after it breaks away

Unfortunately, I am not really too familiar with mattes in general. Do you have any tutorials you would recommend to get me more knowledgeable with the subject, possibly including luma mattes?

well, no i need it to respond to lights, but i want both sides of the sprite to be lit, currently only the side the light is shining on lights up, and the other side stays hard black, looking to let the light pass through to give me shine on both sides

all i want is the light to pass through, under material settings its called “light transmission” but material settings only show up for 3d layers, so i cant get it for particular, is there any way to get it for particular? i dont need it to cast shadows on the floor or anything

this is particular 2.0 btw

your right, it should, i am seeing some interaction with the lights, (the particles are being illuminated), but i cannot seem to be able to get the light to pass through them. 3d layers cause the particles to cease completely, so what your looking at is the particular solid on a 2d layer

i have shading on, thats not the problem, the light is hitting the 2d objects just fine, however, its not allowing any light through the images, i dragged a light down to the bottom to show what i am talking about in this picture, as you can see no illumination happens on the objects between the light and the camera. i need to be able to get the light to go through the object

November 8, 2011 at 3:22 am in reply to: have an idea for a project, but i dont know if it will work! what do i do?i want to create a 3d stage for 2d characters. i was going to try and use lights and particle effects to give it a sort of rave feel. its mainly illumination i need to make work, i dont know if i will be able to get the lights to shine on the images right. if not i will have to scrap it, i havent had much time recently, but tomorrow i will probably start testing it out.
also, what do you mean by small scale? thank you for your time.
