With the hard edges of the door, no, you don’t need a green screen. Green screens are used to remove pixels from video, you could easily do that with a mask that tracks the door. The benefit of using a green screen there, is that you won’t have to do any tracking.

I’ve done it, by just doing the math. Images are 800 pixels, move one forward 400, the other back 400.

Another way is to get a script to do it, like Cuber or 3d Shapes

Place the triangle layer above your film burn footage. Change the film burn track matte to Alpha Matte, it will only show up where the triangle layer is placed.

Star glow might work for the street lights. You could render a street light only luminescence pass, add star glow to that, and add it over your video. But at a really low level, other wise it would be pretty overwhelming.

I second the lens flares—not sure about knoll, but VideoCopilot allows you to place the flares on 3D lights in AE—so if you can export the Camera Information from your 3d application, the 3D lights would track with your camera. Also, you could place 3D lights in the scene with AE, and purchase Trapcode Lux, which creates volumetric lighting.

I don’t know of any program that could do that as efficiently as AE. You might want to ask some Apple Motion people—I unfamiliar with that software—as that’s the only other program where you might do something like that. That would be pretty simple to do with AE though, and if you go to youtube, you will find a ton of tutorials on AE + Kinetic Typography.

I think you would be better off coming up with a practical solution, like a latex mask. The alternative is motion tracking the face, creating the faceless features, and moving them as the head moves on the XYZ axis.

Not often, but occasionally you might find a copy on ebay, but buyer beware. If they haven’t deauthrized it, you are will be out some serious dollars.

Wish I’d seen this last week. Just completed a slide show presentation video, 600+ pictures rotating and this would of been a much better method than my approach. I should run all my projects by Dan before I start… 🙂

  • Looks good & appreciate the video you made showing the interface. Now I just need to find/create a type centric project.
