  • I think that was done with Trapcode Particular, keyframing the Physics Time. You could probably do that with CC Particle world, by creating your particles and look, precomping the effect(move all attributes into new composition), then adding a Time Remap to your precomp. Then just adjust the time to start/stop/ramp the particles.

Battlefield 3, looks to be a combination of a per character position move, along with some masking, to break it up. Hard to tell but multiple layers may have been used also.

Wake Island, position/opacity + rotation and probably another mask, to make some of the text break up. Possibly multiple layers.

The second line looks like a couple of multiple layers, 3d Rotation with opacity fade up.

I made an example project with a few of the techniques. It should help you with a starting point. 7996_battlefieldfolder.zip

All those techniques can be achieved by learning how to use the text animators in AE. Check out the tutorials starting with Animating Source Text: After Effects basics tutorials by Andrew Devis

As far as sync, are you sure that AE is interpreting the frame rate correctly. I recently had an issue where I recorded 24p, and all my audio was interpreted correctly, but half the video was being read as 30p. So you will want to check that.

Which words are you talking about, cause each phrase has some different effects.

I’ve done this by placing a copy of the blackboard above it, open the layer window and using the eraser to “erase” the blackboard, then just animate the “start” or “end” position under the stroke options. In effect you are wiping on the blackboard over your text, but it looks like the text is being erased.

Make the black solid the bottom layer, place the video layer above it, and place your cog above the video layer and change the video layers track matte(press F4 to switch to the track mattes pull downs if not visible) to “alpha matte”. The video should be playing within the cog now.

Got it, that’s a lens flare, and strangely enough, probably made from company who made the tutorial I just linked.

    VideoCopilot Optical Flares

Here’s a link to a tutorial for creating lens flares without plugins,

If you google, you will find other free lens flare tutorials that can help you achieve different looks.

  • Try working and exporting in a 16 or 32 bit codec. Also, I’ve found by adding an adjustment layer with a noise effect, with the noise set to 1 to 1.5% can also break up the banding.

Finally you might want to check out this tutorial: How to remove banding artifacts in AE, from GreyScaleGorilla.
