Can you create your mask, then add the effect Stylize > Roughen Edges

November 4, 2014 at 6:17 pm in reply to: Accelerate video and Loop “pingpong” in AE CC

I’m going to focus on the head part, a stillish body would just require another layer and some masking.

So take your video, drop it into a comp and enable time remap. Go to the end, her head is facing right, now go back and find a similiar position, for me it was at 5:52:22. Move these 2 frames closer together to get your final speed. Then just add this pingpong expression which just says you the last 2 frames to pingpong(go back 1 keyframe).

    loopOut(type = "pingpong", numKeyframes = 1)

Drop the entire thing into a final comp and add the CC Force Motion Blur effect and ramp it up over time. If anything’s unclear check out my quick & dirty example project, it should give you a start on how to do this:

Most that looks like it could be done with animating the paths of shape layers. Andrew Devis has a lot of tutorials on Shape Layers that might get you moving down the right path.

Unless you can find something other file, it sounds like you are up the creek. I’d recommend for future projects an incremental saving structure, maybe it would have helped in this situation. Also, even on my home computer I’ve set up a auto backup system of all my drives, just for instances like this.

    Sorry man.

Sounds like you inadvertently dragged the old desktop file to your portable hard drive, do you have auto-save turned on?

November 2, 2014 at 7:56 pm in reply to: RE: AE: Color settings: how to change color?

The layers you are looking for have the shy button enabled. If you double-click the layer 11 “About Us”, it will open that precomp. Initially, the only thing you will see in that comp is layer 1 “Your Text”. Press the shy button, it’s the icon that looks like a guy’s head looking over a wall. That will show you the hidden layers, if you press “F4” it will switch to the switches modes, and you will see all the layers that have been “shied”. The Layer called “Media 1” has the pink shape, double click it and press the shy button again. Layer 8, “Image 01” is the layer you want to change, the way this is built though, this layer is being used twice, it’s the light pink layer and the dark red layer. If you just want to change the light pink, I would add a Effect > Generate > Fill, and add your color there(note the opacity of the layer is set to 41%, so you will probably want to adjust it to 100%).

November 2, 2014 at 12:41 pm in reply to: Sending sequences to another editor to do work in AE

You need to export the specific shots to him. I would use QT_Animation and send him an uncompressed file, or find the raw media if it’s on a card or a file and send that to him if he can work with it(if you are using premiere he should be able to work with it).

October 30, 2014 at 5:55 pm in reply to: Clone object in background but actor walks past it

You need to duplicate the layer and take off the paint/clone effect. On the duplicate layer, trim the layer to portion where the actress walks in front of the “junk”, then mask her dress as it passes in front of the junk. Now you should have a composite of a top layer(short in duration) that is just the portion of her dress moving in front of the junk and the bottom layer that is the full shot with the cloned out area.

Really, 36 gigs for 3 minutes of uncompressed AVI isn’t out of the ordinary. Just for fun, I did a 3 minute test on locked down interview shot and it came out to 26 gigs. If you have lots of movement, 36 gigs, doesn’t seem unreasonable.
