Took me a second to relize you mean the Current Time Indicator(CTI). Go to Edit > Preferences > General and check “Synchronize Time of All Related Items”

Along with the gradient, maybe add a bit of noise. Perhaps a directional blur with a small blur amount, 2 pixels.

Without getting into massive reflection maps, something simple might be the CC Light Sweep, to fake a specular highlight.

For that, I would use a lens flare plugin, like Optical Flares.. With OF(optical flares), you would create a bunch of 3D lights, copy the path of the logo and paste that into the lights position. Then add a couple of keyframes to just use a portion of the movement, keyframe the opacity of the lights up and down. Apply OF to a solid, and tell the solid to use the lights as flare points.

There are also tutorials for creating your own homemade flares too, if you don’t want to buy the OF package, but I think it’s a pretty great plugin, and apparently so does JJ Abrams.

I used keepvid.com to download the clip from youtube and watched it frame by frame. It looks like for the each person’s name, each letter was individually masked based on the strokes of the letter and then faded on. The titles of each person seem to be a simple opacity face per letter, though sometimes the order is randomized a bit.

When you say the “canvas” is 3 hours are you referring to the entire working area of your composition or are you referring to the layer? If it’s the layer, go to the 10 minute mark, where the clip would ends at the time remap and press “alt + ]” to trim the layer to the CTI(current time indicator).

If you meant the composition, press “Home” and then “B” to set the beginning of your work area(if you haven’t adjusted your work area, it will already be set there). Then go to the 10 minute mark, and press “N” to set the end of your work area. Lastly right click in the work area defined portion of your timeline and from the drop down select “Set Comp to Work Area”. Now your comp should be 10 minutes.

Alternatively, you can press “cntl + k” to open up the comp settings and manually change the duration of the comp to 10 minutes.

Mocha might not be a bad idea, because it allows you to export your data to the corner pin effect, which would be ideal if you are placing an image into a television. You might want to check out,

Can you apply the wave warp effect to a solid layer, and use that layer as a track matte for the layer you want to mask?
