  • Do you have notice the banding in the file you outputted from AE(one you uploaded to youtube)? Generally with files for youtube, I try to render to there specs and expect some compression issues. Nature of the beast.

  • It looks like it was done in C4D, but you might be able to do that strictly in AE using simulation > shatter, gradient layer and then time remapping. It would take a bit of doing and playing, that’s for sure.

There are quite a lot of effects on that video, but are you looking to do something like this:

There is a white flash, then a fade to reveal the person who’s been time freeze frame, rotoscoped/masked over a new background, while a glow effect goes from a high intensity to 0. The text/graphic is in the middle layer and animates from an anchor point on the far left of the graphic with what looks like scale and y rotation.

It’s a series of simple techniques to create a nice effect, all of which you can find here, Video Copilot Basic Training series.

Check out those tutorial, and a few others of the more advanced on Video Copilot. If you have any more specific quesitions, feel free to ask.

Very easy. Place the smoke in a precomp. Create a white solid(cntl+y). Add a the effect transition > linear reveal to the white solid(you could also animate a mask here), if the smoke is moving like in your link above, set the wipe angle to -90. Now, move foward in time until the smoke appears and adjust the transition completion to be be a little behind front edge of the smoke and set a keyframe. Move forward to when the smoke has moved completely across the screen and set the transition completion to follow the leading edge of the smoke. If the smoke doesn’t move at a steady speed you may need to add keyframes to adjust the transition. Lastly, adjust the feather of your wipe effect.

Take this precomp and drop it in your main comp over the item you would like to reveal. Set the item’s track matte(F4 if mattes are not visible) to luma matte, and you should now have a smoke shape wipe without the smoke.

Unless, I’m missing something, use the type tool to create the word “Scientist”. Now create a mask path that animates from a round like to a straight line. Twirl open the type tool, and set the path to that mask.

Which arm are you trying to move?

  • I built a 4 SSD configuration, similar to what you are building. On some projects extremely complicated projects, I do get a bump in rendering times compared to our other systems in the office. If I could go back though, I probably would have done 1-2 SSD drives and one large HDD for source and rendering and then invested the difference on my CPU’s. Just my 2 cents.

If it’s already made and rendered, then really isn’t a tutorial for doing that. Also, if you could post a screen capture of what you have, it would help in coming up with solutions. That being said, one method would be is drop the video into a comp and duplicate it. On the bottom layer, you where the arm is located, you would need to paint the background over the arm. On the top layer(s), you would mask the arm(possibly multiple layers, masks if you want it to bend at the arm/shoulder/wrist). Then you would animate the different layers to move it.

Here is a tutorial that gets a little into painting back in a background that.

Also, without seeing your gif, you might be able to use the puppet tool, so you might want to to google After Effects Puppet Tool Tutorials.
