Personally I’m not a big fan of archiving the all the omfi, but that’s just me. Rather just batch digitize the media again. Then again, most of my projects, I would not be able to put all the files on a DVD. Have you tried using the archive to videotape option?

When you consolidate, first you should only have the sequence selected, then pick your target drive. Also make sure you check, “Delete original media files when done”. If you don’t do this, you have just created new clips and have the old ones as well.

I think what you need to do is go to the first effect, open the effects editor, on a PC hold down “alt” and then drag the effect into a bin. This should give you the effect without source. Then you should be able to drop this right onto the other effects, no need to delete the current mattes.

1. Not really, you can adjust your work area, so that you can see the area where the graphic is, but it won’t show you the actual graphic. If you really need to see it, you could resize your composition, make your adjustments then size back.

2. Without seeing the final video, it sounds like an interlacing issue. Need more information, such as to the type of animation, codec and final use(avid?).

Twirl down the mask properties, and instead of copying the “mask” copy “mask shape” Now you should be able to use that as your path.

I just searched the AfterEffects archives for “bonanza” and it came right up with 2 or 3 threads for that technique.
