First off, kudos to Jeff for basically creating a pretty darn good motion menu tutorial.

From one of your earlier posts though I see one of your problems.

As you stated, i want a motion menu to become a static menu seamlessly. I get the video to play, and the “buttons” to fade in and it to loop. After that , nothing, i cannot select the menu to link the buttons (as it apparently doesnt see the buttons i made in AE (with create encore buttons option))

When you click the create encore buttons, that creates the correct naming format for the buttons. An encore menu created externally can only be a photoshop.psd. The ae comp, rendered out, is just a flat movie, they aren’t buttons.

When you have the final placement of your buttons, have hit the “create encore buttons” “highlights”, go to top bar “composition”—“Save frame as” “photoshop layers”. Then when you go into encore, you import this .psd as your menu.

Seems you were there, just misunderstood exactly what the create encore button meant.

Can’t believe I forgot this yesterday, and in theory it shouldn’t matter, but you could try it. Go to the avid.com and do a search for the avid quicktime codec. Really, if you your animation settings are correct, it should not matter, but at least it will import into the avid much quicker, but maybe it will make a slight difference in quality.

With Avid make sure you are rendering lower field first, and in the import dialogue on the avid have set it to lower field first. The NTSC D1 720×486 preset is the correct aspect for 4×3.

Often I find when bringing into the avid if I’m moving the text too slow or fast, or the text is too fine, no matter what my settings are there will be interlacing issues.

Thanks Tim, that was the conclusion I reached also. Had I thought about it some more ahead of time I could of saved myself at least 1 long AE render. Live and learn.

I just tried a variety of ways, but besides the feathering inside vector paint there isn’t much in the way of applying textures.

Will take a bit longer, but would probably give you the look you desire is to first take the image into photoshop. Then find a brush that has the texture you want and use the erase tool.

What you will be doing is creating your animation backwards in photoshop frame by frame. So you would erase a portion, that would be the last part of the image being colored. Save as image099(or how many frames you believe the animation will last. Next erase some more and save as image098. Keep erasing until you get to the start. Import the psd as a image sequence in AE.

If in the future you find that you want to rotate the camera, rather then the object(say you have multiple objects), easy solution.

Create a null object and turn on it’s 3d property, then parent the camera to the null. Now just rotate the null and the camera will rotate around it.

Does the client not have a .eps of his logo?

In the project area, click the timeline tab. For your end action just use the pulldown and set it back to the timelines chapter 1.

Personally I’m not a big fan of archiving the all the omfi, but that’s just me. Rather just batch digitize the media again. Then again, most of my projects, I would not be able to put all the files on a DVD. Have you tried using the archive to videotape option?

When you consolidate, first you should only have the sequence selected, then pick your target drive. Also make sure you check, “Delete original media files when done”. If you don’t do this, you have just created new clips and have the old ones as well.
