Generally you don’t finish in any 3d programs, and C4d isn’t an exception. Create, texture and animate your heart in an application like C4d and bring it into AE for the final composite. C4D, works really well with AE and they keep improving the workflow.

Without knowing the entire situation, I think you should be able to do it the entire thing with text animators. Use 1 animator to select your word and scale it. Then an animator to move the text before the word and one to move the text after it.
If the word is in a paragraph, you would probably need 2 more animators to move the the text that is above the word and that which is below the word.

You are right, there many ways to do this. If you have the CS5 Creative Suite though, this isn’t so difficult because you will have access to Adobe Encore. If you do then you are mostly done. So that’s the first question, do you have Encore?

You probably need to change your middle keyframe to an “easy ease out” keyframe. Select that keyframe and press “shift + cntl + F9”.
That will add a gradual speed change to your keyframe. You can open up the graph editor to adjust the speed change by adjusting the handles.

Here’s another approach to get at banding from Roland Kahlenberg:
Blurring one or more of the color channels does a better job for reducing or eliminating banding problems. Adding noise more to a comp which may be destined for Web delivery will only result in a poorer quality web version as compressors usually have a harder time compressing noise.
Use Effect>Channel Blur and increase one of the values to solve your problem. You can tell which channel needs more attention by looking at the individual color channels in the Comp Panel prior to applying Channel Blur.

Particular is a 2d effect that works in AE’s 3d space, so there are things you need to do to make interact with objects in your 3d scenes. I suspect the problem is you haven’t set an obscuration layer, to do this twirl down visibility and set the Obscuration Layer to your logo.

Are you working at 100% size and Full Resolution. When working at smaller sizes, AE has to use less pixels and it can cause aliasing.

I had been using AE for about 10 years before I bought the AE Illusionist last year and I found it very handy and keep it nearby as a reference. Everyone gets used to a certain effects and patterns and his book exposes you to things you might not know were there. Doing tutorials will familiarize you with the effects you need to complete the tutorials, this will help you learn the ones you might only need once every other year, but you’ll be glad you know them.
As far as learning advanced work, the book really doesn’t go into complex stuff, just enough for most of the effects to get a basic understanding of what the effect does. I would give it a pretty strong recommendation for someone in the first few years of learning AE, and and for advanced users it’s a nice reference to have around.
