If these are 2 different layers, you can easily time remap the image sequence and use a hold frame to freeze it. Then at the freeze make sure whatever keyframes for your null also freeze/stop animating.

Sorry, I posted before I had time to experiment, after a few minutes I realized it’s not CC Kaleida.

I did a little experiment with some 4 shapes(precomped) and CC Repetile that comes close, but I cant seem to get how the edges seem to blend together a bit. I feel like I should know this one, but right now the answer is eluding me.

I think you are referring to the spherical reflection map which can be turned on/off in element.

If you have CS6 you can just add photo/video(they need to be really large for this to work), turn the render engine to ray tracing and right click the layer and choose environment map. Now just add a camera and have at it.

If you don’t have CS6, Trapcode’s Horizon is a plugin that will also accomplish this effect.

There are 2 effects in this sequence the Virtual Photos effect and the transitions.

Using a camera might make things more difficult than they need to be for a project like this. Create a null and enable 3D and enable 3D for you photo layers. Move to where you want your transition to start in the timeline and set starting keyframes for position and rotation for the null. Parent picture 1 to the null object. Move 15 frames forward on the timeline and change your Y rotation to 90 and use the null to drag the picture 1 completely off screen.

Now with picture 2 in it’s default position parent it also to the null. Now as you scrub, picture 2 should rotate into place as picture 1 is flying off screen.

From experience I can tell you that the difference mat works well in theory, but in practice not so much. Slight differences that you probably won’t see can make it extremely difficult to remove someone from a shot. Give it a shot,but test it first.
