First off, anyone who comes at you in a threatening manner is guilty of an assault, (providing there are witnesses). If they touch you, then it’s assault and battery.
Secondly, copyright law states that absent a specific clause in the agreement stating that it is a work for hire, then the creator, (you), owns the copyright. Many here think just because a client gave you money to shoot it, they own it. Wrong. The agreement must state specifically that the services are a work for hire. The only exception is when you are an employee and your job is to shoot/edit.
So you own it.
That being said, if you gave him your raw masters, then good luck in getting them back.

Today, dead celebrities estates often make more money per year than when they were alive. And, there are agents who work on behalf of the heirs of these celebrities. Used to be, when they died, the use of their likeness was fair game. Then a few lawyers got into the game and many states changed the laws giving the rights to the heirs.
60 minutes just had a segment last night on it.

While I agree for the need for copy protection, IMO it is encumbent on the producer of the DVD to imbed it on the media during the transcoding process. By putting DRM on the hardware output, it assumes that all activity taken from that output is for illegal purposes. I guess we’ll just use the RGB and capture in HD. Pretty much the same quality, just a different signal path and a pain.
Our next DVD player will be one of those cheap no-name models made in China that won’t treat us as criminals. Too funny actually as our work is done in and for the DOJ.

Ahhhh, with age comes wisdom, (well, most of the time anyway). As Winston Churchill once said, “too bad youth is wasted on the young”

What a great idea. I’d make sure that the late fees were stiff, and 1099 him for the entire amount.

I’m using CS5 production Studio and Win7 Ultimate 64. Maybe some day Panasonic will write 64 bit code for some of their software but I’m not holding my breath.

Here’s a link that has some good information and a PDF for download. Although it’s aimed at photographers, the same laws apply to videographers.

If we as a group start giving in to these unlawful demands to not photograph or video. The we are giving up our rights as American citizens.

I do talking heads against green screen all the time. I found that using green florescent lights, (kino flow), to light the screen gives a nice even color. I put the talent 10-12 feet in front of the screen, and the camera another 8-12 feet in front of the talent.
I also shoot in progressive mode, 4:2:2 color space, which gives me a really good key to work with. If you don’t have 4:2:2, at least shoot progressive, it will make your editing life a bit easier.
