In the render que just set it to render alpha only. That will render out your matte. Put your graphic onto tape with the alpha pass after it. It’s nice to provide a sync pop / gfx so they can line it up easily as well.

Why? You are creating frames out of thin air basically. FCP has always been awful at slowing down footage, SD included. Motion and AE do much better jobs, but beyond that you would need to purchase twixtor or something similar.

Yes, do what David says, though making it a self contained QT out of FCP isn’t totally necessary if you never need to go back to that source file. Reference movies do serve their purpose. I have stuff that I know for sure I won’t need again, and in that case I go with the reference movie.
By the way Carl, there is an option in DSP to set the encoding procedure to “background encoding”, in which it will encode your files while you build your menus, set up the DVD, etc, then, by the time you are done usually you are ready to go, but it’s a moot point anyway as that’s not the best workflow as discussed above.

Have you tried switching in your preferences the “upon timecode break” to “warn after capture”?

If you only lost your media you wouldn’t have to re-mark your ins and outs. Just recapture your footage.

It’s in a drop down menu in your preferences under video display settings I think. Don’t have AE open right now.

You really shouldn’t need to change anything. Make sure your video display settings are set for 525 NTSC. How are you exporting out of FCP? That could be the issue.
