  • HELP PLEASE. Timecode breaks every time trying to capture 1080 material.

I’ve got 1080 23.98 footage on a DVCPRO HD 60i tape. When I set my easy setup to HD 29.97, Jona LH 1080 60i Prores.

When I JUST try and capture now then through log and capture, the capture pauses with timecode breaks a second into the footage on EVERY clip. There are timecode breaks on slugs between CC’d selects from original timcodes, but I don’t understand why I can’t get through one clip without the machine pausing on a timecodebreak.

I’m trying to online an offlines project brought over from an Avid machine with Automatic Duck… that’s a totally different story… I can’t even capture the material with a brand new project with an easy setup.

Only way I can capture without timecode breaks is to play machine locally and capture on the fly, but I lose timecodes then. ANY advice is appreciated a I’m way behind schedule with this thing.

Why capture to ProRes? This is DVCPRO HD, you can either capture via firewire at full quality, or use the Kona DVCPRO HD 23.98 preset and capture that way. You won’t lose any quality when you do that. And you won’t gain any quality by capturing ProRes.

Oooohhh…that’s different. This is an online of sorts then. Well, did you, when converting the Avid AAF, tell FCP to make a ProRes timeline? Are you following the Duck procedures to a T? When you do this, you shouldn’t need to capture full clips, but just the parts used in the timeline, with handles (if you chose that).

Was the Avid offline done at 23.98?

    Hey Shane,

Yea… with Auto Duck, I tell it to use a pro res timeline at 23.98 as yes, it was cut at 23.98. Problem is, I can’t capture the material at 23.98… we have a trilevel sync here but I’m a bit green with this as I’m a motion designer… I’ve tried patching in Trilevel to capture material at 23.98, but I get green lines, locked picture, etc… so I guess sync off?

But I can’t even get it in at 29.97 either. Like I said, only way it captures without timecode breaks is if machine is local and I just capture now. Ugh.

They need to hire someone who knows what they are doing. Sorry, no slight on you…I’m sure you’re very talented. But onlining isn’t a simple thing. There are a LOT of tech issues that occur that require someone who is experienced to handle. And you have encountered one of them.

TriLevel sync isn’t essential when capturing…I have done this lots without. But it won’t hurt to have it.

This might be an issue that only someone on site can really figure out. Trying to solve this on a forum, with someone unfamiliar with the process and tools on one end, can be quite unfriutful.

You need someone not so green. Just like I wouldn’t dare try to go in an do motion graphics or design. I know some very basics, but I’d get over my head really quick.

Have you tried switching in your preferences the “upon timecode break” to “warn after capture”?
