March 17, 2010 at 10:21 am in reply to: Frame Rate Converter making Varicam footage look awfulWow, is it really that much trouble dealing with frame rates between 30 and 60fps? If I had known about this I would have just used my handy HVX200 and saved myself the grief! If anybody knows a way I can successfully capture that footage just let me know. Meanwhile I guess I just keep plugging along with the second method I discussed earlier. Thanks in the meantime Shane.

Thanks chief, just un-installed it and then re-installed it and updated the firmware on the hdlink pro, all is well now.

The most current firmware version. All of my options are greyed out and this error message is constantly happening upon launch.

Hey I’m having this exact same problem on my Mac Pro. Any advice would help.

Just thought I’d bump this thread and mention we’re having the exact same issues, even after an audio mixdown, when printing to tape we’re getting lots of dropouts as well as audio distortions. We’re running on an 8 core Mac with 16gb ram, Kona 3, and Nvidia Quadro FX 5600 graphics card, so we’re not exactly hurting spec wise. We have a 30 minute infomercial with seven layers of video (lots of graphics) and two layers of audio (mixed down). Even after nesting the video, we’re getting all sorts of errors but only upon edit to tape or print to video. Right now we’re exporting an Uncompressed 10 bit quicktime of the whole project, and then upon re-importing that qt, we’ll see how it prints to tape. Will let all of you know how this works. This has been one heck of a learning experience for us, and like the original poster, we have to get betas out asap!!!

So after much experimentation, I had to do the following:
1. Render out as a PSD with alpha.
2. Import into final cut and go to “Modify”, “Alpha”, and set it to black.
3. Bingo, problem solved.I will throw this at you guys to show you all what I’m talking about. Do the following:
In AE
1. Create a solid of any color.
2. Click the mask tool until its in the star shape.
3. Double click that and then set the mask to a subtract.
4. Render that out as a PNG with alpha and take in to FCP.
5. Notice that the star shaped alpha channel is there and you can see your footage underneathe.6. Now go back in AE, create a new solid in a new comp.
7. Click the mask tool until you have a rectangle.
8. Double click that and then set the mask to a subtract.
4. Render out as a PNG with alpha and take that into FCP.
5. Notice the solid shows up in FCP as though you never cut out the rectangular mask!!!!Why is this? Any guesses?

yeah I’ve been doing that and all the ones I chose support alpha and I always choose it, I’ve tried both pre-multiplied and straight. What’s weird is if I make this overlay a quicktime animation with alpha, everything goes fine, it’s when I try to make it a still that things get screwey!

I’ve had this same problem with transcoded RED footage. We transcoded to AJA Kona Apple Pro Res 422 HQ 23.98, I setup the FCP timeline as such, go into Kona, and make primary 1080psf23.98, and secondary 525i 23.98, and presto, jagged lines everywhere. What could I possibly have setup wrong? I leave FCP in HD @ 1080 23.98 and let Kona do the converting, only it ain’t looking good. Any ideas?

April 24, 2008 at 2:11 am in reply to: AE CS3 render problems, aka strange horizontal linesAs a follow up, I have solved the problem. I reset the preferences and cleared out the cache. That fixed the problem. No more scanline looking effect on the footage. Thanks.

April 23, 2008 at 4:59 pm in reply to: AE CS3 render problems, aka strange horizontal linesAll footage was shot on Beta SX at 29.97 (60i) and ingested as such. No 24p elements at all. To clarify as well, these lines don’t look like “interlace issue” lines, they’re more like faint but very recognizable scanlines. They look like I had applied a scanline effect on certain clips in the comp at maybe 50% opacity, only I didn’t. Its odd, to say the least. I did a forum search and only one other person had ever had something like this happen, and he had to reload AE on his computer. I’ve gone back to all of my previous projects and rendered them out with no problems, for some reason, it’s just this one project.
