Adobe Certified Expert Bartlomiej Walczak has written a simple plug-in that perfectly does garbage mattes. It’s even free!

    Download it here!

Machine Specs: Macbook Pro Intel Core i7, 2 Ghz with 16GB ram, Snow-Leopard 10.6.8

    Software:
    – Adobe Production Premium CS6 (AE, PPro, PS, etc.)
    – Final Cut Studio 2 (Final Cut Pro, Motion 3, Color 1.0)

  • Jeff is right. It is a glitch in Photoshop. I had just been doing some transformations on the text when the problem started. I tested to see if resizing and doing transformations shortly after would produce the same results and it did. Adobe needs to fix this!

Thanks for the timely responses both of you! I posted the same thing over at the Adobe forums but the thread has been ignored and bumped into obscurity…..

  • Thank you for all the great advice gentlemen (thanks for the kind offer John). As noted in the document that Walter shared, the issue was caused by some comps with layer styles applied deep in the structure. I’ve reorganized it and everything is fine now.

This is the new structure for each of the objects:

    Main Comp > 3DComp (FX Comps x40) >FXComp

    – The illustrator files that I was using in the FX comp were unnecessarily pre-comped with layer styles applied. Simply taking these out of the comps and applying the effects directly to the file fixed this. If anyone wants more detail I can provide it.

    Regards,
    – Joe A.

  • Ok I did that, however the layers still aren’t rotating around the center the way I want them to. How should I organize my pre-comps in order to properly achieve the effect?

My pre-comp structure for each object is as follows (only a portion of the 40 pre-comp layers fit in the image):

    Main Comp
->Precomp with 40 copies of off-set precomp layers.
–> Each of these copies is a Precomp with effects applied.
—> Inside these are two pre-comp, one of which has a stroke effect applied.
    —-> The original file.

Thank you for responding so quickly!

Thank you for your quick response and advice Mr. Eisen.

But how have people been able to sell their copies in the past? I want to know how people normally do this.

I have the same problem except only with the font Calibri. Would be great if someone has a solution. Its quite annoying.

My apologies, I forgot to mention that I have also have FCE 4 installed on my machine. I plan to edit the video in FCP 5 then do the motion blur processing in FCE, that is, if it comes down to using Reelsmart. However the FCP 5’s incompatibility is also part of why I wanted to find another technique so that I could keep things simpler. Thanks for your response.

I am looking for a plugin or technique that would enable me to apply motion blur to subjects in stopmotion animation clips. However a motion blur transition does sound useful. I suppose I could test it to see if I can achieve anything worthwhile.

Thank you all for your input! Mr. Tompkins response solved my problem but everyone’s suggestions were very helpful.

I hope to eventually buy an intel MacBook pro or iMac for editing as well as one of the newer studio packages. Its one step at a time I suppose…
