November 17, 2013 at 2:07 am in reply to: I need Advice ASAP please! why don’t FCP and Avid just talk to each other?Thank you guys for the very quick responses. I will try the boris plug in trial. As for automatic duck, I export the AAF from FCP 7 using Automatic duck and go to bring it into Avid. All the media is offline. I try to tell it to link to AMA folder and then try to relink, I still get the error that Avid can’t find any of the source media.

December 17, 2010 at 7:50 pm in reply to: fcp 8 – when can we expect it to be released?I think that FCS 3 (are we only on FCS 2 or are we on FCS 3 in which case it would be FCS4…. any who) I feel like its going to be a lot like the release of OS 10.6 The GUI stays relatively unchanged but what does change is under the hood (so to speak) I am thinking it will be powered by a fully flushed out version of QT X with at least the native support that FCP 7 offers now (with probable native support for DSLR and other tapeless codecs) Hyper threading and full scaleable Multi-core support (like some adobe products like AE, doesn’t matter what you have AE will find a way to use it all) True 64-bit processing. I think motion is going to get some upgrades. I really hope that apple uses this release to take motion to the next level. I am hoping to see motion replace shake since apple discontinued shake and has yet to provide a decent substitute for it. I also would like to see, much better round tripping support from FCP to Logic. Having said all that, I don’t see much in the way of GUI based changes. I swear if they make it look like iMovie…. well I wont say because then it would be pre meditated. 🙂

There are still a lot of factors that need to be considered. What codec is the HD footage in? how many lines of video are you trying to playback in real time at once? How long are your sequences & final projects?
I would recommend however:
MacPro (as of now an 8 or 12 core with as much CPU as you can afford, you cant upgrade the processor easily or without voiding the warrantee)
Lots of RAM (8-16 GB)
a RAID controller card with either Mini SAS or Dual Link Fibre Channel Interface
A RAID Cabinate that supports RAID 5 configuration populated with WD Black or enterprise drives.
An AJA LHi or AJA Kona 3 card (Kona card if you need 4:4:4 HD Playback
HD video reference monitor
ATI Radion Graphics card with 2 computer monitorsThis is a very general idea and would need to be tailored based on specific needs

November 20, 2010 at 7:16 am in reply to: Adding audio to timeline, after adding just videodid you use the in and out points in the canvas before dropping them to the timeline or did you drop the full clip to the timeline and edit on the timeline?

Does that mean that FCP does not resample the clip in the timeline? it just lays the ProRes codec over everything?

I wont add any artifacting from the render by changing my sequence render setting as opposed to a fresh import or sending the files through compressor to change them?

I exported the project as an Image sequence (TIFF 8-bit with Alpha) and imported the folder into my FCP project. I set all still frames to 1 frame duration and dragged the whole folder into the timeline. I had to render the photos but I did and it looks okay.
I still tried to export as a QT file after that and again motion crashed. I would really like to know what other possibilities it might be because I use motion in almost every project and if I can’t export stuff out of motion and I have to create image sequences all the time I am going to be very frustrated. This is the first time I have ever had this problem and I am not sure quite what to do or what is causing it. Please help. Thank you.

I have done the repair permissions twice and reset PRAM 3 times when I trashed the motion prefs this last time I ended up with the same result. I am going to do it again and try to export as an image sequence. Also could my graphics card be the issue (due to its lack of power) or does motion not use the graphics card to render like color does.
