so regardless of what is causing it…when i change the offset to +1, it looks to be correct…(was able to have someone test it out while outputting to tape)

only problem, even though it is coming in on the correct frame, it is editing onto field 2 instead of field 1, can I set FCP to field 1? if so where, if not, how do I correct this?

if you can’t see video in your capture tool, with the settings you are using, then something somewhere is wrong, DF or NDF shouldn’t be an issue. you said you can see it downconverted…is the 1400 still setup to downconvert when trying to ingest HD? make sure you are sending HD out of the deck…is the output of the deck set to 720, not 1080? if your deck is setup to output correctly, and your FCP is setup to ingest correctly…and your capture preset is firewire…then try HDSDI and 422 control…

do you have a Kona or Blackmagic capture card or are you stuck with firewire only?

Are you referring to tape tension??? I guess what we’re really talking about is deck control and communication…

if my input is 1:00:00:00, but the deck starts editing at 59:59:29 that’s a communication issue, not a tension issue.

but what is confusing as well is that it seems to be different at different times…(per my editors). sometimes, it is a frame early, sometimes a frame late…I guess that could be attributed to using different setups, and changing decks….

my tests this morning…I could not recreate this issue…using 3 different deck settings…every one of them starting editing back at the right timecode…using a DVW-A500

    really??? it’s that messed up?

couldn’t i just take the character output of the machine? don’t want to waste a tape of each format we use for this test…

everything is 422…we are a professional house…”F” firewire, lol

so just looking at the timecode on tape and comparing what we see in the capture and edit to tape windows…and adjust for that? seems simple, but seems silly that we have to adjust that for each machine…

    thanks!

  • right…that’s why i mentioned we don’t need the license for the render…maybe i wasn’t clear, but I know that, thanks!

i’m going to do my initial test today, and hopefully all will go well…

  • so am i correct in thinking that i could set one of the 8 core machines to render the QT automatically even though the original project was done on one of the older quads?

we have 3 Mac Pros, this one is the only 2008 model, and it is running Leopard. I tracked down the cause…mismatched ram….not talking maimatched pairs…they were matched, but ALL 8GB of ram had to match, I replaced the ram with all Crucial ram, and it hasn’t crashed since when working in 1080 Prores 422.

now our other system I tested that crashed as well had mismatched ram too, so I replaced all of that with Crucial, but haven’t had a chance to test that yet…

our 3rd system has matched pairs as well, but mismatched total ram, but that seems to have other issues we are working on right now…will not boot from a full shut down unless it sits overnight….that one is going back soon…when it does get back, in with the crucial ram as well.

we have 1 quad that has all matched ram, so that shouldn’t be an issue, although I will test that as well soon.

well, i was trying to recapture HD SDI out of the deck, I tried just about every option i could think of. last resort, i changed all my settings to HDV, and am capturing via firewire, and so far no lockups…but this is an hour show, and i’m on the 1st tape…we’ll see how it goes.
