where is this media stored? almost sounds like your playback isn’t fast enough….are these new drives…

first, make sure you’re looking at a 480i picture on the Sony…
1080i is brutal to regular video. Compressor has stock settings for best quality 90 min, thats a good place to start, and as you adjust the quality settings you can see the time change.
looking at the dv means nothing to the dvd results, rember you’re compressing the already compressed (dv) signal

how much rendering at we taking about? I’m looking to purchase a quad G5 witha lot of ram….and the Kona 3… am i gonna be rendering one layer w/ color correction? how many layers can i go with the HDV codec?

you should be able to make in and out points on the source window, and hit one of the edit buttons in the middle of the screen to make an edit and put it on your timeline

ps where shooting HDV…does the deck read timecode from the camera?

what i mean is we are going to be on the road and want to make a protection copy of our tapes before we fedex them back to edit, and trying not to buy a FCPHD just for this application.
