    Hello everyone,

We shot on the EX1 Camera 23.98fps and we’re editing in FCP on a 29.97 timeline with compressor XDCam XE 1080i60.

We are having playback issues. Randomly, we will have digital hits on the timeline and in the source file. These hits will disappear after an hour or two (sometimes after more time) but more digital hits will appear somewhere else on the sequence AND on the source file.

It’s not coming from the fact that we are editing with different settings than the ones used to shoot, as the digital hits appear even in a 23.98 timeline with the same compressor.
Also, we exported several times to a self-contained QT movie, and extra digital hits come up.

We’re working on 2x3GHz Quad core with 8GB RAM and OS 10.5.2. FCP is 6.0.3 and QT is 7.4.5.

Has anybody encountered this type of problems before?
It seems to be a QuickTime issue more than a FCP issue, doesn’t it?
    Thanks!

    what is a “digital hit?”

Do you mean a glitch frame, glitch or popping audio etc….

Yes, it is a “video glitch”. Basically, there are pixels all over the frame or sometimes it is just one line that’s probably duplicated. And these glitches never show up at the same spot from one day to the other. The audio is fine though.

so they are inconsistent and not actually on the source footage.

if you play them from quicktime player are they ok?

What version of quicktime are you running.

They are consistent for about 2 or 3 hours, sometimes more, sometimes less. But, the glitches don’t really exist on the source file, they just “appear and diappear”.
When there’s a glitch in FCP in the sequence, the same glitch will be in the source clip (still in FCP) and I will see the same glitch in the source file in QuickTime.
Then, after maybe 2 hours, these glitches are gone but new ones come up (at different spot on the media).

    QuickTime version is 7.4.5

Any other footage shot in different formats play fine in QuickTime or FCP.

wow that is a strange one.

Are you using AJA or Black-magic hardware?

Sounds like it might be a driver issue.

what happens if you mark in and out an area with a glitch then export it for dvd? is the glitch also on the m2v file?

We are using AJA Kona and even with the latest drivers, this still happens.

Yes, the glitch would still be on the m2v file.

It sounds like you need to call AJA support. Thats what I would do at this point.

where is this media stored? almost sounds like your playback isn’t fast enough….are these new drives…

The media is stored on a brand new drive yes with the latest Xsan.

What’s the solution to that? Change drive…? Hope not…

    Hi,

This problem is very, very similar to one that we are experiencing here on one of our FCP suites. It has been discussed, but not resolved, in this thread:

    https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/8/995096

Kevin, your description exactly matches what we are experiencing. One major difference is that we are actually getting these glitches on any 10-bit uncompressed, HDV, DV, basically any type of footage.

The glitches come and go at random, and are visible even in QuickTime when we open the source clip.

We are using Terrablock shared storage, AJA card for capture (LHe), newest version of QT, FCP 6.0.3, and his box is running Tiger.

Ummm… I guess that is about it. I’m about to install the latest Facilis server/client update just to rule that out, but it seems like a problem there would be affecting the other suites running from the same Terrablock.
