Good point. This was recorded via rec outs to line in on the H4n. This phenomenon has happened on three different boards now.

I’ve yet to do anything with the internal mics.

Aha, I thought this would be the case as I was reading the previous messages. I wish there was a way to apply stabilize to more than one clip at a time, but since it has to be a Media FX, I don’t suppose there is any way.

    Maybe a script?

June 27, 2013 at 10:38 pm in reply to: Sony Vegas Pro 12 GPU Acceleration CRASH!

Interesting. I was using a very old 9800GT card, and didn’t expect anything of it really. I was looking forward to updating, and gaining some horsepower, but apparently I went a bit too far. I actually just bought this card, and I wonder if it’s worth returning it for a 500 series card? I do see a little benefit in rendering, but it’s less than a 20% improvement.

    Thanks for your response John.

Are you folks saying that you actually successfully use GPU acceleration in 12 Pro? I have never had it work correctly on 11 or 12, and blamed it on an older Geforce card.

I just installed a new GTX 650ti, and was looking forward to the added performance. Indeed, it could display a faster preview frame rate at a higher res, but froze often, and displayed the dreaded red screen of death.

Pehaps this card isn’t well supported? I have the latest drivers and such on Windows 8 64. Is acceleration better implemented with Radeon cards?

October 18, 2012 at 5:12 pm in reply to: Nice simple titling plugin for Vegas Pro 10?

I suppose the answer was no? I would gladly pay for such a thing if it existed. The stock Vegas Pro titler is horribly outdated, and largely unchanged since version 4. I have version 10 btw. The “Protype Titler” can do some nice simple titles, but is buggy and limited with extended text. I blame Flash more than Sony, but who knows.

You either have stuff from companies like Boris, which is great, but too costly and complicated for me. I’ve seen a couple of other similar and costly options. Prodad and the like.

Heck, if I could just enlarge the darn window big enough to be useful, that would be awesome! Throw in support for apostrophes, and you got a deal!

November 12, 2011 at 5:03 pm in reply to: Sony Vegas Pro 10 crashes while editing

Sigh….. I had hoped that Sony had finally corrected the stability problems with Vegas as of version 11. Apparently, they did not. I’m using version 9, and was actually considering upgrading. Until I’m convinced they’ve taken care of these issues, why bother?

Having seen countless “stopped responding” messages, and more cases of freezing during a render as the counter ticks away, I have found two things that seem to help reduce this a bit. One is to avoid nesting projects. Much as I had welcomed this feature, and it seemed to work ok with SD, it almost guarantees a crash with AVCHD source video.

I stumbled across one workaround that has actually saved the bacon a few times, and might help you in this case. Do a “ctrl A” and select everything on the timeline. Open a new instance of Vegas, and paste the content, or do “ctrl V”. This has worked a good number of times for me, and I was finally able to render the project.

One thing I did finally discover that causes the “out of memory” error almost every single time is embedding .veg files on the timeline. In particular, when the embedded .veg file contains mpeg4 source video. I don’t recall this happening with my prior camera, which produced mpeg2 source files. Once I realized this, I’ve not been able to duplicate it any other way. The solution for my situation was to render, rather than embed the veg file. An extra step of course, but it worked.

This is one option I had not yet tried, and it indeed did work. It’s a little added time and trouble, but nowhere near as bad as having to split up a project.

Thanks so much for the suggestion and quick response!

I’ve reduced rendering threads to two, and then to one. Preview ram has been reduced to zero. I’ve also killed most unneeded processes. One interesting thing I’ve noticed. The problem most often occurs when attempting to render complex projects as AVC. The very same project renders successfully as mpeg2.

April 5, 2011 at 9:40 pm in reply to: Sony Vegas Pro 10 low memory error…

It’s clear that I’m not alone in the low system memory problem boat. I’m using Vegas Pro 9, with the latest patches, and still encounter these problems. When the low memory render crash occurs, I show over 2GB free on a system with 4GB total. So clearly, it’s not actually a low memory problem, but rather some other conflict that triggers the failure.

I have tried so many things I’ve run across online, and none have helped. One poster did post about rendering in segments, and simplifying project, and that does seem to reduce the problem occurrence. I really hate the idea of having to take some new workflow into account, in addition to everything else I need to consider.

I was actually considering moving to Vegas 10 in hopes that the problem would be resolved. I see now that this apparently is not the case, and there are plenty of reports about the same problem.
I really like Vegas, and think it superior to comparable platforms in my view. Unfortunately, I’m just about ready to go another route unless I can find a practical solution.
