  • Hi Joe,

Looks like you’re going to want to look into a “Grahpics Extension Module” That’s what Matrox calls them, other vendors may have different names but they effectively do the same thing – one video output fed into these boxes will give multiple outputs.

The version I think that’s generally accepted as the best in class is made by DataPath and it’s called the X4

    https://www.datapath.co.uk/products/multi-display-products/datapath-x4

They can be a bit harder to come by than the Matrox products, but have quite a bit more power.

The only thing I can’t specifically address here is the amount of delay that will be introduced into the signal from the time the camera input is captured until the time that it’s spit out of the GXM, but I would expect you’d be looking at a minimum of 3 frames of delay, possibly more depending on all of your settings.

I’ve only ever used the datapath and boxes like it to extend computer graphics where processing delay was not an issue. Hopefully someone else on here can chime in.

I’m curious what your application is exactly, any why, perhaps a distribution amplifier would not work to get you three outputs from one?

August 26, 2013 at 6:03 pm in reply to: Playback Pro Plus Keeps crashing

    Paul,

The first thing I would suggest is updating your playback pro to the latest version, 3.5.1. You can grab it off the DTVideoLabs website

On top of that, do you know what platform these QT videos were created on? I have experienced some compatibility issues when attempting to playback ProRes files on a computer running one OS (say 10.7.5 for instance) that were created on an older version of the OS. My understanding is that this is caused by changes Apple’s software engineers made to the QT Components between versions of OS X. The solution is to open the problematic video files on your playback pro machine in QuickTime 7 (or another application using your version of the QT components) and export a new file using the exact same settings as the original video. This has resolved the issue for me every time I’ve experienced it.

    Hope that helps,

July 25, 2013 at 9:21 pm in reply to: SDI Input Projectors

    Hi Bill,

Given the size of projector you’re asking after, I think you’re going to have better luck sourcing one that has HDMI inputs and then purchasing a small converter to go from HD-SDI to HDMI.

I would recommend checking this one out from AJA:
AJA Hi5 Mini Converter. If you need it, they also make a 3G HD-SDI to HDMI mini converter, but it’s a bit more expensive.

What exactly are you going to be using the projector for?

    I would second Illustrator.

I use it frequently to create video system diagrams for large scale live events. It works perfectly. One tip that I’ve found is immensely helpful is to setup graphic styles for the different cables (SDI, HD-SDI, VGA, DVI, HDMI, etc) using the BASIC ARROWS Brush library. This will help demonstrate signal flow in the system.

November 25, 2012 at 9:37 pm in reply to: Question on getting properties for a video and mouse

    Hi Suzin,
Generally, you can “Control Click” to bring up the right-click context menu. This just means you hold down the “Control” button on the keyboard while clicking.

If you go to the Mouse menu in the System Preferences, you should find an option to enable a “secondary click” or depending on the mouse you are using, it may have an image of the mouse with drop-down menus for each button on the mouse. The left and right buttons on the wired mice default to primary click on both the left and right side, but you can change the right button to a “Secondary Click”

    Hope that helps!

November 22, 2012 at 12:23 am in reply to: Live Event with multiple video files question

Both Jim and Matt are correct,

PlaybackPro is a simple and powerful video playback solution. In addition to what Matt said, the software allows for realtime modification of the geometry of a clip as well as simple proc amp level control. The only thing I would add to Matt’s setup would be a way to monitor the audio at the controller’s station. Something like a USB audio interface and a small fostex or anchor monitor. Also, if you don’t have it installed on your Mac, you should get Quicktime Player 7 Pro. It’s much more useful for live events than Quicktime X probably ever will be…

Also, as for the bug in the ATEM software, with the 1ME at least, if you roll back the firmware of the unit to 3.1.2, the 60Hz issue disappears. For some that may not be feasible, but if you don’t have an HDMI to SDI converter on hand, this is a viable workaround.

    we’re up to $0.04!

September 17, 2012 at 7:12 pm in reply to: Digital File Playback

    Hi Chris,
You might also look at Playback Pro. It’s a Mac platform based software solution that allows for file-based playback, it allows for setting in and out points and has real-time geometry settings that allow you to manipulate a video on the fly without altering the original video. It runs off a Mac, so you can scale up the hardware to whatever is appropriate for your content. For HD resolutions you’re most likely going to want to use a MacPro tower, however I know there are people out there using an external RAID setup with the new MacBook Pros quite successfully. Your milage may vary.

Their website is here: DT Video Labs

    hope that helps!

September 8, 2012 at 2:35 am in reply to: SDI to HDMI mini converter blackmagicdesign no output

    Hi!

How long is the SDI run from the source to the converter and what kind of cable are you using?

In my experience, I’ve found that the software control panels for these mini converters don’t do much for you in the way of troubleshooting… the signal is either there or it isn’t. Same with the dip switches on the side of the converter. They’re entirely related to the way the processor handles audio, not video signals.

So I’m not sure if you’re experiencing the same thing here, but I’ve run into some issues with the BMD SDI>>HDMI converter that was actually the fault of the monitor it was being plugged into. Some monitors are flexible and will display resolutions with both whole and fractional refresh rates (60Hz and 59.94Hz) Others are more picky and when they receive a fractional refresh rate, like one you would expect to find in an SDI based signal, they won’t display an image.

Is there another monitor you can test the converter on?
