If you’re only doing a handful of performances, then the USB enabler key for Playback Pro can be rented from DTVideoLabs as opposed to purchasing the software outright.

However, in my opinion, Playback Pro is an invaluable tool for handling live event playback. I use it on almost every show I do and it continues to save me time and headaches!

And like Walter mentioned, it is a much more affordable solution when compared to the traditional DDRs like the Turbo or Doremi.

Have you seen the Ejector cases before? I think they’re very cool and seem to be very durable as well

    check out https://www.ejector.de

And they’re made in Germany, so you know they’re top quality!

March 26, 2010 at 6:18 pm in reply to: Does the DVD Specification Support 30p?

I know this thread is a few month old, but I’ve just been reading up on DVD authoring and came across it. I love that this resource is here for people to explore, I continue to learn so much just by scrolling down the forum lists!

After reading this thread, would it be correct to say that the way a Progressive video is encoded on to a DVD is Progressive segmented Frames (PsF)?

It seems to me that the encoder is taking a 30p, (or really, 29.97p) splitting it up into two fields that exist at the same point in time. So even though it is being drawn as an interlaced signal, there is no temporal shift on the display, thus no interlaced artifacts.

Is it correct to think about this process this way?

    Thanks!

    hi shaun,
Let me start off by saying that my experience is mostly working with video. But from watching all of the audio engineers I work with, I would say that yes, you are correct.

By inserting the EQ on each individual channel and making your adjustments there, instead of on your Mains EQ, you’ll have more overall flexibility and control when it comes to your mix. Cutting a frequency out of your mix completely to fix a single channel is overkill.

We’ve been using Playback Pro on a Mac Pro tower with a 3TB RAID Array for several years now and couldn’t be happier with it’s performance. It has support for Apple’s ProRes 422 codec out of the box and provides an exceptional quality at manageable bitrates.

The software is designed to pre-roll clips so that the video is already buffered before you hit play, there is no lag. In addition, the software is also able to modify geometry and levels on the fly. There is only so much you can do with the levels controller as bad levels are bad levels, but the geometry functionality alone, in my opinion, makes this software worth owning.
