Coolest booth was the Arbritron rest station one between the central and north halls. Free water, cookies and ice cream for the weary.

Thats why I’m getting into Avid MC. Not leaving Vegas, but need to collaborate better with others.

We have a Yamaha mixing console that can send AES if needed.

OK, I’ll check that out, it also seems the Kona 3 with the K3 breakout box might do most of what we need too. Just no HDMI out, but that can be remedied with a mini converter.

Whew!!! Glad I found this thread. My church is about to purchase 4 new Mac Towers, 3 HPX300s’, Panasonic AS400n switcher, a Kona card and an AJA IO HD, based on my recomendations.
Now I have to figure out what we need to replace all the features on the IO HD at similar price point. I’m thinking BMD multibridge pro. We were planning on using the IO HD, not just for capture, but as a mini router to re direct HD source to a projector and down rez and send out to the churches SD TVs throughout the building. the IO HD seemed perfect for this.
I’m not sure we can get 10.5 and FCP 6 on new machines from Apple.

btw, I’m sure AJA is doing everything they can to fix this issue. this is costing them sales, so… Not angry at them at all, but have to make some hard decisions in the next few weeks.
Even if they knew about the problems, they would have been under NDA, and it’s probably a lot harder to fix then most of us realize.
I’m hoping this will work out sooner than later, but based on Apples’ past record, don’t bet on it.

Mike Francis in Centreville Maryland runs the Queen Ann county tv station using Vegas 8.c and all the editors there use it. He has one heck of a setup too (high performance shared raid storage…). Uses Sony EX3 cameras as well. Vegas is reliable and fast.

Gary Ugarek (Deadlands, Deadlands 2 “Trapped”) cut both his zombie movies on Vegas.

I’m starting my first feature this summer. Still haven’t decided to stay with Vegas or go with Media Composer, but not because Vegas is flaky. It depends on what comes with the upcoming version 9.

I’ve been hanging out at other forums (FCP, Adobe, Avid) thinking about switching… and all I can say is… what ever you think about Vegas, we have it really good compared to most others. Most of our problems are mild compared to theirs.

Curious how no one answered this. I may have a similar issue using HD/SDI in and audio coming from a separate mixing device into the XLR audio connectors.

December 16, 2008 at 12:59 pm in reply to: Workgroup hub and video switcher

I’m aware there are several options for video switchers.
VT = Newtek Video Toaster, been around for ever, but they still don’t support HD recording, otherwise they would still be an option.
The Panasonic 400 series swticher is way over priced for what you get, but the 300 series can be had for under 7K USD and includes dvi input (a requirement), that’s an expensive add on for the 400 series.
Being able to combine all the inputs into a single monitor is nice, but with the cost difference, getting 3 Marshall field monitors would be much less expensive. (It’s a 3 camera setup plus input from a powerpoint output device). I’m also checking out Focus Enhancements and DataVideo options too.

I just thought it would be cool to be able to use the WorkGroup hub as a real time switcher to a single capture device like an Aja Io HD or Motu V4D into a MacBook Pro. the only issue being how to implement DVE.
If the Multibridge supported more than 2 inputs, that would be a pretty good option too. Not sure if one could chain 2 of them together or install 2 PCIe cards and work them that way.

And yes you are right, trying to keep the budget under control, though I do understand you get what you pay for.

Any news? I have Vegas 8.1 installed on Vista 64 Ultimate and am interested in the HD Extreme.
mobo is an Intel based one (X38 based chipset, 2 PCIe16x2 plus 1 PCIe4).

Have you looked into using a SAN? Facilis makes an relatively affordable one called Terrablock. Uses 4G Fiber, so it would require at least 1 free 8x PCIe on the mobo. Very fast and supports dynamic volume control. I’m looking at it for my own use.
