Try saving the menu as a Photoshop file, then delete the menu form your project, import the PSD you saved as menu, then re-linking.

What you are trying to do is not possible in the DVD0-Video format. Button hit areas are always rectangles.
It is possible to have button highlights which are not square, but in the design you have illustrated, there will be overlapping buttons.
That said, you could do this using multiple menus…essentially one selectable button per menu, and use dummy buttons that auto-activate and take the user to the next menu when they navigate.

I think I can help here.
If you are doing ANY compositing in Encore (e.g. adding buttons that have any non-subpicture layers in them), Encore must create a new MPEG file, and therefore re-transcode the the video.
So here are your options:
1. If you don’t want Encore to composite your video, do all of your work in AE or PPro (including any button pixels) and then export your MPEG-2 file. Use this as your background, but make sure your buttons contain ONLY subpicture layers (you can do this by turning off layer visibility in Encore’s Layers palette, BTW).
2. If you plan on adding buttons with pixels or other layer content in Encore, export an uncompressed AVI from AE or PPro, then add your buttons or other layers in Encore, and Encore will composite the elements into a transcoded MPEG file.

Not with Encore.
There are some freeware/shareware apps of dubious legality which might help you to re-author from a VIDEO_TS folder. Take a look up at http://www.videohelp.com.

You may be able to correct the aspect ratio of an MPEG file using an application such as ReStream. Check at videohelp.com for more info.

Sorry, Encore does not offer menu transitions. You could create the bits separately in PPro or another NLE, and then use them in Encore as timelines or menus linked to the next menu.
It is not possible to have the same audio track running through multiple menus in any DVD authoring program: the DVD-Video format does not support it.

A bug in the AC3 decoder.
To work around it, don’t transcode audio until you’re ready to build the project (File > Revert To Original if it’s already transcoded)- or simply reset the CTI in the timeline and try again, as you found.
