Either way, do some serious research on FCP and QT imports, it seems like FCP and QT have their own way of “correcting” gamma and black levels, even if you don’t want that.

Your OS version is a clue, since that it an unsupported version of OSX for MC.
Check the Avid Version Matrix, and stick to it religiously, or this type of issues may be around every corner. It’s just that simple, I’m afraid.

I hardly ever use AMA, but others have told me that yes, in MC4, AMA reliability has been improved.

Is this footage via AMA?

Uncheck every box in the import window and import the 44.1K track(s). Select the resulting clip, and right-click, then choose “Change Sample Rate”, choose Highest Quality, choose to delete the original.
If that does not sync up, source picture and source sound simply are not in sync with each other.

DNxHD36 is only available in 23.976p/24p/25p projects. -

Check the Help files, under “Resolutions and Storage Requirements”. It says “A good guideline for selecting a resolution is to use the Avid DNxHD resolution that matches the megabit data rate of the acquisition format. For HDCAM-originated material, for example, select DNxHD 145, which closely matches the data rate of HDCAM but provides better mastering results with significantly less storage required. The following table compares Avid HD formats to the HDCAM format.”
Also, it describes the specification of each resolution type thoroughly. -
