v6.x dongles will allow you to launch v5.x (and earlier).

Avoid the Quicktime H264 codec (you are using it when you export straight from Avid [QT export module] or when exporting from QT Pro).
The issue of the gamma shift has something to do with Apple’s H264 QT codec. Google ‘gamma shift h264’ and you will see many more people experiencing the issue.
Try to use something like the Main Concept x264 encoder that is in Sorensen Squeeze, for example (QT ref or QT Same-As-Source from Avid, convert to 264 using Squeeze).

Avid can only export at broadcast canvas sizes. So you would normally export (or reference export) with black bars, then strip the black bars off elsewhere (even QT Pro could do it).

Pretty sure that if you set the upper TC display above the record monitor to TC24, and you type +12, that you will advance half a second.

What happens if you first hide the transcoded media by renaming the Avid MediaFiles folders to something like Avid MediaFiles X.

Export a QT Ref, then in QT Pro, export, and set the size to 1920×817, choose Preserve Aspect Ratio, and choose Crop.

Aside from the fact that theatres are masked for that, so it should not be too much of a problem, you can still perform whatever you need to do in MC, then export, then crop back to 817.
You simply cannot work in any non-broadcast canvas size in MC.

You can import 1920×817 into Avid. Tell it to “Do not resize smaller images” in the import settings. Then it will be letterboxed within 1920×1080.
If you’re doing AMA rather than traditional import, choose Bin->Choose Columns, and display the Reformat column, then click it to select “Pillarbox/Letterbox” (rather than the default setting which is Stretch).
