July 24, 2006 at 3:17 pm in reply to: Question for Bob, or anyone that wants to chime in.Well Bob, Thanks for crushing my hopes! Just Kidding 🙂 I know that you would set me straight in my ways. I figured Markertek would just integrate the 2 for me since they do have a custom order patch.
Thanks again.

July 24, 2006 at 2:54 am in reply to: Question for Bob, or anyone that wants to chime in.Interesting. I’m wondering if I can do a 8 port with 4 firewire and 4 RS422, or hell a 16 with 8 and 8. Now i just need to find the firewire adaptors and will be on my way. Any ideas?

July 22, 2006 at 9:33 pm in reply to: Question for Bob, or anyone that wants to chime in.Thanks for all the info. I figured that firewire probably wasn’t as frame accurate as 422 protocol, but i thought i’d ask. And for the record we do have a Canare patch panel, and it makes a world of difference. No more flash light, weird stares at your butt, and the foul langaunge has gone down!
Any recommendations on a RS422 patch. The one I was looking at was https://www.markertek.com/SearchProduct.asp?item=12XDB9F%2FF&off=2&sort=prod . I remember seeing another floating around that used “special” RJ45 in the front vs. the serial cable.
Thanks again.

Unfortunately I bought the store last copy. I purchased my copy of Motion in Utah, and i’m located in St. Louis, MO, if that gives any perspective.
Apple stores used to have Motion , STP, etc in the stores, buy when i talked to them recently, they had to ship all of the copies back. I looked on ebay, but was very leery on buying, but i guess it works out for some people. I was fortunate enough to be looking at the cow classified when i email George Loch on where he found STP, and gave me the lead on Motion 2.
I’ve heard that the Academic version is upgradable to full retail, but i personally didn’t want to go that route if there were any problems.
Sorry i couldn’t be of help, but keep looking on the Cow, something might come up.

Thanks Jeff. At the office we have FCP5 Studio (which we need to upgrade to Universal)so i guess if I need to have a book in hand then those will do.
I am upgrading Motion 2 to FCP studio for my own personal copy, so when i go off on my own to start my own personal venture, i would have saved myself a ton of money doing it this way vs. buying a whole suite set from the get go.That’s really too bad they don’t give you a full meal deal when you do the upgrade. I guess they are saving $$$ on shipping. Maybe i’ll just have to bring a MacBook Pro into the bathroom vs. just a manual for some light reading. : P
Thanks again,

I just ran the updates on my machine today (10.4.5/Soundtrack Pro/DVD studio/Quickime,etc (sry cant remember the version number for the software updates)) and after the reboot tried to fire up FCP 5.04 and the splash screen comes up and then the machine just stops. Screen dims, and get the message to hold down the Power Button to restart. Reboot, try again, same thing. Everything else works, just not FCP.
Fortunately the machine was configured by Promax, so I have a clean install on the other partition of the disk if I need to go back. Thank you Promax. : )
I’ll have to post my system config when i’m back at the office, but in a nutshell G5 Dual 2.7/4.5GB Ram/X800/Kona2/Io/Apple Fibre Card/XRAID 5.6 TB/FCP 5.04
I’m little new to the system, but I know people recommend trashing prefs/repairing permission/ and some other magic mojo to try. Haven’t tried any of that yet, so will do so when I get back to the office.
Any help would be welcomed.
Thanks

Ah, that makes sense. I knew all the outputs were live. Just new to the system and trying to figure out if any of the FCP updates or firmware changes hosed the Video Playback Settings. Just a little confusing when you have a ton of Easy Setups that display all your options and only the component one shows up for Video Playback.
Thanks for all your help.

Ya the outputs of the Io work, just playing a sequence now. Coming out both component and composite to the scope. What I guess i’m refering to is should there be Video Playback options in the the FCP menu to view on composite/S-vid/SDI in addition to component.

Bob,
I saw the ad last nite, and from memory, if you look at the reflection on the desk, it says Rosetta. did a google search and came up with this
https://www.apogeedigital.com/Again, trying to remember the specifics of the ad.
Pretty cool ad. I always think its kinda fun to name the equipment on those things. Can anyone name all the equipment on FCP previous ad? the big 2 page spread.

On a related note, is it really a necessity to have the optional SDI board, BKM120D, for PVM20L5 if the Kona 2 does the downconvert to SDI and component? Just wondering, b/c specing out a system with promax. I’m just seeing if others out there have the SDI card. Does it really have any benefit?
Thanks.
