I can find no documentation regarding the project importer, so I can’t verify if its only 10.5+ compatible. Does anyone know? Wick? Seems like that should be noted somewhere since once you upgrade to 13.0.1 you cannot export usable XML to a workstation that isn’t 10.5 or better…

    Floh,

No older importer installed, In fact, I wrote over the older one when I installed this one. So, you are using CS3, yes? This isn’t CS4 only. I am running AE on a separate box (intel 10.4.11, QT 7.4.1, AE 8.0.2)

Once AE launches after the error message, you just can’t read in XML files.

within the P2 folder structure just navigate to the video folder, then right click on an mxf. Open with… and select Quicktime.

You could just open in QT Pro and export if necessary.

I have updated drivers for the Aja card and the HBA card driver is approved for up to 10.5.5. Those are the only additional cards besides the video card that came with the mac. The phantom disk does not appear when the array is not powered up, however.

naturally I took the shortcut and did the upgrade. I am away from the system now, but will remove the RAID and see if that sheds any light.

Glad it worked out for you. I’d recommend Mark Christiansen’s book Studio Techniques, where I learned that trick.

    Gregg,

I have just updated to 13.0.1 and noted that we now have access to the Aja control panel for the card. In the manual for the panel the “setup” section allows one to lock the audio gain to unity. They reference Final Cut, but this tells the card to ignore level from the software, which would exhibit the symptoms you are talking about with the levels not conforming. I have not had a chance to really test this out, but its worth a look. FWIW that is referenced in the Aja manual on pg56.

If you are getting a track that just needs some smoothing you could try applying an expression to your resultant anchor point. The stock Smooth expression right from AE

    Smooth(width = .2, samples = 5, t = time)

and adjust width and sample numbers to tweak your outcome…

    Wick-

Thanks for the info. One other to toss out… If I am going from 10.4.11, is it advisable to install 10.5.0 from the discs that came with the Mac Pro and then use a Combo update to go to 10.5.5 (Vs. just incremental 5.1..5.2..5.3 updates)

and am I going to encounter any issues because I can’t go to 10.5.6 due to Caldigit?
