    Jeremy,

So even muxing with software like Calibrated or MXF4Mac is not keeping AVC-I in 10 bit (thought I remember you mentioning that in your article)? That would suck. But so does having to transcode everything to ProRes HQ.

    Jeremy,

Thanks for the feedback. I have found that tweaking the knee does help. The still I sent was right after we got the camera, so I had not tried that. But, since you don’t see it monitoring the camera on-set, I assumed it was a compression issue, John.

Just read the article last week – Really interesting. Do you find that shooting AVC-I 50 has similar issues (4.2.0 color etc)?

    Jeremy,

We’ve been shooting into DVCPro HD 720p. The artifacts I am noticing are standing block, not noise. Since its not visible whilst monitoring the camera, I am assuming its the codec. I have a still of something we shot pretty early on with the camera in this configuration at:

    Jeremy,

Can you be any more specific regarding what sub menus you have been tweaking. We have the 2000 as well and I have found it noisy as well. I think its codec dependent as you are not seeing any of it monitoring the camera, its just showing up in the files. DRS is not the issue for us. Its off.

Anything recommended that is less costly (with obviously fewer features like being MXF aware, capacity and speed) We’re looking into something too, but don’t need network capability. Any thoughts on VXA320? That is what we are leaning toward.

    Wick,

Thanks for verifying. I need to check with someone at least once a day to make sure I’m not going crazy. Whist I have your attention, are there any plans to support AVC-I ? Avid and FC (with transcode) are getting there I hear. We can shoot to it, but can’t work with the media on Media 100.

    Thanks!

    Michael,

This is a known bug. It is fixed in 12.5, but if anything is written to the prefs file the levels will revert to SMPTE. Even though it will always show SMPTE it will be Beta levels until those prefs get re-written. So, when you are ready to digitize, switch to Beta and batch and you’ll be fine.

    Hey guys,

Thanks for the info. I suspected it was the board issue, but the docs are somewhat obsequious when it comes to some of this. Is there any any way the HDx board can do it real time? Or is it also software level (HD Suite) dependent?

    Thanks again.
