Did you trash your prefs file? This usually has to do with changing the NTSC display prefs and it gets hung up there. If you don’t want to lose all your prefs you can try this: drag your current pref file to the desktop and fire up AE. Quit. Then open up both prefs files (in a text editing program) and search for “[“MacOS Video Preview Pref Section”] in both. If there is a difference copy the section to your existing prefs file (the on causing your Floater) and replace the newer version with your modified orginal. Its worked for me in the past.

Are you field rendering or frame rendering? I have not used TH in a long time, but I noticed this bug and brought it to Jim T’s attention. He noted it was a bug and they were working on a fix. I never followed up because I had no use for it after that project. You might check the Digital Anarchy fourm or site.

This could be a long shot, but check to make sure your 1800 is not switched to “contol track” on the face panel. This just happend to one of my producers this week. Walked in, switched it to LTC and all was well.

    Richard,

Thanks for the reply. Perhaps another dumb question, but I assume Illustrator is only outputting Square? In that case working square would be the way to go?

    Steve,

Thanks for the response. I feel quite comfortable with how AE deals with incoming files and interprets square vs non square. Rick’s Strangepixel is a great piece and I’ve had it in my file for quite awhile. I’m just curious with Photoshop and AE capabilities of allowing you to view in square pix even when working in non square pix, if folks are now working more in non square. And if so, are there any problems I’m overlooking that may bite me in my southbound region! Just seems like I should now be working at 720×486 in PS and AE since that’s what I am going to output. And with tools that can allow us to see results square pix on the computer as we work…why not. But I can’t shake the feeling that I am somehow going to compromise my work. That’s all…Thoughts?
