Yes, I tried that! I am a video editor, and FCP not recognizing my DSR-20 would have rendered the program useless and I would be out of a job. I had to do it!

Unfortunately, the only way to really fix the problem is to do an ARCHIVE install or a CLEAN INSTALL. I erased my hard drive, spent hours installing everything again, and now FCP sees my DSR-20. Truthfully, although it’s a pain, reinstalling everything gets rid of a lot of garbage. Make sure to get the newest version of DISK WARRIOR so you can repair and optimise your directory.

Evidently, if you have your deck plugged into a FireWire port and you blithely upgrade to Tiger, you are an idiot and should kill yourself. The only way I could fix the problem of FCP not recognizing a simple DSR-20 deck was to erase me HD and install everything from scratch.

Trying out the latest & greatest is fun. Media 100 should come out with a SD board that works on a G5, too. Although I am saving for a Media 100 HD, I’m also playing around with Motion and Combustion and a lot of other programs that soon will require 10.4. I actually LIKE spending money on equipment but Media 100 doesn’t come out with cool stuff. Sigh…
