I think your computer needs some attention.
I exported a one hour 15 minute self contained QT movie on my DP225 and it too about 35 minutes. Processor was using about 25% of capacity and running about 21 mb/sec.
In compressor, doing the export from FCP to MPEG 2 “best compression for a 90 minute preset, it also took about 35 minutes. Data read was about 9.23 to 20.14.
I’m running 10.4.11 with the latest upgrades for FC 2.
We usually run disk warrior on all our machines once every two or three weeks. I’d suggest giving that a try since I see no issues on either one of our Power PC’s.
The DP 200 is just a little slower, but we haven’t encountered any big issues there either.
We normally only work in HD, so going from HD to MPEG2 SD is pretty slow. An hour show will take about 20 hours, but on our quad core Intel machine by using all the processors it only takes about 3 hours.

I don’t think it’s a Power PC issue because we have two, a DP 200 and a DP225 and they have no problems with Compressor exports. A lot slower than our Intel machine, using all the processors, but still not unusually long export times.

Seems to me if you can get a video stream into your HDSDI input on your video card, using something like the IO HD or if you have HDMI out, the Nano Connect, then you can for each continuous take go into the clip and modify the time code to match pretty closely your original file.

After installing all the FCP updates, I was able to log and transfer files from the camera, the SDHC card and the hard drive that Panasonic included with the camera. I did a test, dragging the cqamera files to a hard drive in another computer, then bring that drive into my Mac Pro and everything worked how I believed it should.
Seems to work decently, just very slow for a large volume of video and I perceive I’m seeing some “funky” artifacts in the video. Almost like the motion stabilizer is over compensating and introducing additional movement at times rather than smoothing it out. Could be I’m so used to larger cameras that these little bitty things are hard to hold still.
Clips go on a Pro res HQ timeline and seem to work just find with no render and the caemra makes very nice pictures.

One other question occurred to me while I was doing this testing. The camera ships wih a 4 gig card at the lowest rated speed of “2”. I tried an 8 gig card rated at “6” and another 4 gig card rated at “4” and they all seem to work equally well. I thought I had read somewhere that a fast card, like the “6” was needed for HD video. Anyone know anything about that?

I just found 6.0.2. I’ll give it a try. I was reading another post on the Apple site and one editor says you need to download the entire contents of the SD card to a hard drive before FCP will recognize the files. Apparently there are some support files in the camera settings that it must have to make it work.
I’ll give it a try and report back.

I don’t find FCP 6.0.2 anywhere on the Apple site and it’s not popping up in software upgrades either.

I found one piece of help in the Apple FCP forum to use File/log & transfer to get the clips into FCP. This worked with the camera connected to my computer, but won’t work on files I’ve transferred from the SDHC card, nor will it work with files transferred from the camera to the 40gig hard drive that comes with the camera.
Still working on this, but “HELP” would be appreciated.

What’s puzzling, is I started with a clean install with the new machine, but it was done at Pro Max in LA, then shipped up here, and something obviously was corrupted along the way or once I stated working with it.

The reformat & reinstall worked great and seems to have solved all issues…that is of course only working for a few hours on the system, but several of the operations I’ve done would have caused problems before.
