Importing V1U footage @ HDV res
Posted by Arturo Glass on November 24, 2007 at 4:19 pmIs there a way to import footage from a V1U using the Apple Intermediate Codec without have to “Capture Now” all of the footage from the master tape? I’m surprised I can’t log and capture as I do in other formats.

November 24, 2007 at 5:09 pmSince AIC does not capture or reference timecode, you cannot log and capture.

November 24, 2007 at 5:25 pmOne reason I believe that you cannot log and capture Apple Intermediate Codec is because when capturing video using AIC you are essentially forcing the computer to do a conversion on the fly. This conversion can be vary processor intense, by giving it more to think about like a log and capture might just push it over the top.

November 26, 2007 at 9:16 pmFCP 6.0.2 lets you remove pulldown on capture from the V1U, so you could just capture as HDV at 1080P24 and have your logging info. I do agree it sucks that you can’t log your footage when converting to AIC or ProRes, although when removing pulldown the clip gets 23.98 code instead of 29.97 code that’s on tape, so you really couldn’t do a proper recapture. Your logging info would only be good for adding a reel name or scene info on capture.
