    From the Help files – Deformer Object:

    “The deformer will affect its parent object and the hierarchy below that parent. This means that a deformer will affect any object at its level in the hierarchy (since those objects are children of the deformer’s parent) and any object below the deformer’s level in the hierarchy (since those objects are in the hierarchy of the deformer’s parent). However, a deformer will have no affect if it is positioned at the top level of the Object Manager hierarchy, since it will have no parent.”

    Assuming that you want to rotate the platter and mat together, simply place them all in a null as shown below, and rotate the null.

    When using an X-Particles material its opacity is controlled through its “Transparency” setting. Since X-Particles materials allow shading of the particles without any geometry the display tag is not effective. However, if you were to use an xpGenerator to create geometry then the display tag would work.

    Hi Joe,

    I don’t know which objects you are using, but with a simple Emitter and xpGenerator setup the Display Tag works fine for me. Could you post your project file, or at least a simplified version which shows the issue?

    Hi Pier,

    Yes, subdividing means to increase the number of segments. The more segments, the smoother the bend. The curvature of the bend is controlled by the “Strength” setting, which is measured in degrees.

    For sheer power and amazing results, it’s hard to beat X-Particles, but the downside is obviously its price. Xfrog is far cheaper than both Forester and X-P, so I would suggest trying out a trial version to see if it will do what you want.

  • One way would be to clone the papers on to a sphere. Set the Cloner to “Object” mode with a Distribution of “Surface,” and set the pitch transform of the Cloner to 90 degrees so that the papers are parallel to the surface. Add a Random effector to the cloner with only the rotation parameter selected and adjust the Heading setting to taste. Add a Push Apart effector (Push Apart mode) to get separation between the papers. You will need to adjust the Radius and Iterations as necessary to prevent the papers from intersecting.

    Edit: My paper is a plane in the +Y orientation. If yours is different you may need to use different settings (instead of pitch and heading).
