Sorry, but I think you’re out of luck. Both Redshift and Octane require a CUDA-enabled Nvidia GPU.

    Hi Steve,
Sorry to hear about your issues. I have never experienced what you are describing but have experienced other issues (extremely long opening times for R20, for example) that were only fixed by reinstalling the app.

As far as bad behavior in general is concerned, limit access to social media and high fructose corn syrup. 😉

I have no documentation for that plugin but only a few short video tutorials, one of which shows deselecting the “Initial” checkbox after making adjustments to the other parameters. Unfortunately, that particular tutorial is without audio so no explanation is given. Oftentimes certain plugins in C4D don’t update until the second frame (actually frame 1), so I suspect that that might be the issue. Your second image looks like the “Radius” and “Max Rays” parameters are much too high, so I would try reducing those and deselecting “Initial,” or cycling that checkbox. If that doesn’t help post your project file and I will take a look at it.

Sure thing. When I get more time I’ll try to fully dissect the project and see if I can find the issue.

    Good luck.

    Hi Tim,
With all your settings intact (other than turning off GI and AO to speed up rendering) I get the same result you do. The only thing I have been able to find so far that allows the Picture Viewer to render the displacement is to disable one of the two Tension Tags on the Torus. As I have never used Tension Tags before I am unfamiliar with them, and therefore haven’t had a chance to fully dissect the project. So as to why this is happening I don’t know. Are they both necessary? And even if one was added by mistake that still doesn’t explain why displacement renders in the Viewport and not in the Picture Viewer.

I’m sorry that I couldn’t be of more help. Perhaps a brighter mind will chime in.

I was initially wondering the same thing Steve, but as far as I can tell enabling/disabling SPD affects all renders, and it wouldn’t stop the basic displacement from showing in the render. From Tim’s first reference image it looks like he’s using a displacer deformer rather than a displacement channel in the texture, which is where the SPD setting would have an affect.

I can’t recreate your issue. Could you upload your project file?

Depending on what was selected in the “Root” setting (which specifies where guides are created) the count will be limited to that parameter. For example, if you have “Polygon Vertex” selected the number of polygon vertexes in your object will be the maximum number of guides that can be created.

If you want to increase the number of hairs, increase the “Count” setting in the Hairs section.
