Since you are looking to create a 2D image, have you thought of using Photoshop or After Effects instead (assuming you have those available)?
I would be interested in seeing a sample project just to get a better idea of what you’re trying to accomplish. If you could post the project that you’ve been working on, perhaps I, or someone else, could make some more suggestions.

That’s an interesting project. Having never tried something like this before this is what I came up with.
If you haven’t already done so, make sure in your Project Settings that Project Scale is set to 1, and “Inches.” In C4D Preferences>Units, Unit Display is also set to “Inches.”
Set your Render Settings to the Width and Height of your desired final image. Set Resolution to 1 – Pixels/Inch, Pixel Aspect – Square.
Create a Camera, set its Projection to “Front” and enable it.
To set up the scene create a cube object whose X,Y dimensions matches your render settings and then adjust the zoom to fill the final render area in the View window with that cube. As is normally the case, if the aspect ratio of the View window does not match that of your render settings (grey bars are visible on sides or top and bottom) zoom so that the cube fills the view to the grey bars. You can then hide this cube and add whatever objects you want to create your final 2D image, making sure that their Z positions are all zero (0). In your initial set up with the cube and camera make sure that their coordinates, and the camera’s H,P,B settings, are all zero (0) so that the camera is centered and looking directly at the center of the cube.

Background images are scaled to your output settings when rendered. I suspect that your background image is not filling the background when you render because you have modified its Length U/V and/or Offset U/V settings in the Texture Tag. For a 1920×1080 final render, if your background image is 1920×1080 then Offset U/V should be 0% and Length U/V should be 100% (unless you are trying to move it or stretch/shrink it for visual effect). It appears that you just need to adjust the Offset U and V in order to move it up and right.

Actually what I meant to say was the image in the View window will have the grey bars showing in the area that is outside the Render Settings. If your background image is 1920×1080, but your View window is wider for example, a render there will have grey bars on your background because it isn’t large enough to fill it. If your Render Settings are 1920×1080, the background should fill it in your final render.
Hope this makes sense. Or perhaps I haven’t understood your problem.

The render in the View window will have grey bars outside of your Render Settings dimensions. The render in the Picture Viewer will show the final results. Is this what you are referring to?

Create your object – a cube for example.
Make it editable – (C)
Enable axis modification – (L)
Move the axis with the move tool – (E)
Disable axis modification – (L)
Use Rotate tool, or adjust H,P,B in cube’s coordinates, to rotate it around re-centered axis. -
Yes, it is very strange, but perfectly workable. I can live with it. Maybe the next update will fix it.

It looks like a light bulb. While the issue is annoying, since I can change the Type in the attributes menu it’s not a deal breaker. I have checked for updates and it shows that I’m running the latest version (18.028 build RB177006). Is that what you have?
