I just started using R18 and noticed that adding a light to a scene by clicking on the light icon in the main menu, or selecting the first icon (“Light” – the light bulb) from the submenu, adds an Area light. In previous versions this was an Omni light. In R18 the only way to get an Omni light is to change the Type in the Light Object’s attributes once a light has been added. As there is a specific selection for “Area Light” in the submenu, this seems to be a bug. Anyone else experiencing this?

I don’t have this issue. Does the light icon look like an area light or the light bulb?

    Thanks for responding Adam.

It looks like a light bulb. While the issue is annoying, since I can change the Type in the attributes menu it’s not a deal breaker. I have checked for updates and it shows that I’m running the latest version (18.028 build RB177006). Is that what you have?

    Yep, same. Strange.

Yes, it is very strange, but perfectly workable. I can live with it. Maybe the next update will fix it.

    Thanks for your input.
