How well does Motion work when you have say 75 images that need motion in a 30 minute 1080p ProRes project? Is it manageable and easy enough to go back into motion to tweak a move?
Thanks for the help.

I would like to know the answer to this as well. Also, what tools do you guys use to convert the EDL frame rates for this purpose?
Thanks

June 12, 2008 at 7:34 am in reply to: Getting a strange issue when editing with ProresI would try a Reference QT and see if that works. Always go out to QT whether Reference (usually will work fine) or self-contained to compressor. I have had the same issues you described when going straight from the timeline.
I have also had it where the compression will fail for no apparent reason when going from the timeline, then I made a Ref QT and it worked fine. Go figure.
good luck.

Yes, all of the effects were standard FCP dissolves and transitions. It seems to be just this particular project that is causing it. As an FCP user I have become used to strange things happening for no apparent reason.

About my reason #2 comparing to Avid: I know it is not a good argument to say that FCP should do it the way Avid does, but it seems like they did the opposite just to be different than Avid. Perhaps I am wrong, but it just doesn’t make sense to show the Upper Field instead of the Lower.
I wish there was a way to change that.
Thanks for the help.

Speaking of Tablets, I am a user and big fan of Wacom tablets, however does anyone else have problems selecting certain things with their tablet? For example, when I need to click (tap) on an effect in the Effects tab to delete it, it won’t select. When I tap it, it selects for a split second then deselects. Drives me crazy. And sometimes when you tap a clip to select it, it will move around on me.
Just seeing if I am crazy, or if others deal with these issues.

I have not tried to experiment with making the canvas display at 100%, but the field dominance is a non factor. After all I am working with SD NTSC footage that is Lower Field Dominant and it is displaying the Upper Field. I even experimented and changed it but that had no effect.
We could add a de-interlace filter, but that may be too much trouble. I think I will add some feedback. There is no reason to show the upper field when 1. it is not the dominant field, and 2. Avid does displays the lower field.
Sometimes I feel like there is no reason FCP does certain things.
Thanks

I am having this same problem with ProRes 422 1080p 23.98 footage. I have tried straight from the sequence and Quicktime Movies and in each case the timecode is incorrect.
I have had this problem on 2 systems and I figured that it was just a bug in compressor 3 however when I tried it on my Laptop (Powerbook G4 1.5ghz) it worked perfectly. I am trying to figure out what would cause such a thing.
It appeared to work incorrectly regardless of the format (NTSC and HD) on the two Intel systems, but worked fine on my G4. Strange.
I have not figured out a solution yet. Hopefully I can do a reinstall and I will post back to tell you how that went.
