Sorry to be imprecise. I’m running Compressor 3.0.5. The Matrox presets are in there (that’s why I’m confused).
    Preset I used:
    MAX H.264 for YouTube HD 1280 x 720p 29.97 44.1 kHz
Use this to create H.264 1280 x 720p 29.97 at 5 Mb/s video for You Tube HD using Matrox MAX H.264 codec.

The original video is XDCAM EX 1080i60 29.97.

I am running Leopard 10.5.8 and installed corresponding driver from Matrox site. Any input useful. Am still waiting for tech support to “get back to me”.

    Thanks again.

I just ran another test. One min of video from XD Cam. Using Compressor w/ Matrox preset: You Tube: 1280 x 720 29.97 folder. Preset …from 1080i (5Mb/s). One minute of video took 2 mins.

    Hi Craig,

I’ve just installed the Matrox card but I am not seeing the speed increase. I must be doing something wrong. I exported two minutes of a piece with up to 3 video tracks and 6 audio tracks; original video EX Cam 1080i. Using the Matrox presets in compressor with the matching preset in the High Quality folder it took 7 mins to encode. In fast encodes folder You Tube preset 640 x 360 it took 3:45 and the ipod iphone encode took 3:37. Any thoughts?

    Thanks

Thanks Jerry. I think I figured it out. Field dominance needs to be set to “none” in sequence settings.

It doesn’t matter what the size is, they just look terrible. Another clue: if I try to do any new text into this timeline they also look bad. Thanks

I had the same database error. You need to install browser software that came with camera to make it work. good luck

I haven’t tried this, but this may be helpful. It’s a step by step approach for outputting SD from EX-1:

Thanks for the helpful input. As I am considering buying the EX-3 I can’t do any test runs. This is really the big question: I have been working in SD for years mostly industrials/docs less than 10 mins. long and am concerned about the editing with MPEG-2 files being a time-consuming, painful process. Is this something I can adapt to and live happily with? Any other thoughts on the camera much appreciated. How big an issue is rolling shutter?

I think you may have already answered the question. I’m trying to determine best workflow from EX-3 without having to transcode all my original files to ProRes. Seeking the balance of time/not having to stop to render basic effects while editing/maintaining highest quality for final product. Any input is greatly appreciated.

No reason to output as ProRes except my understanding that this produces best image. How does that compare to EX export?
