Any recommendations on upgrading the GPU? I have a MacPro 2010 tower with the stock card. What card would be a logical upgrade and what type of increased performance should I expect using FCP7?

Would upgrading the GPU help at all?

I’m currently upgrading to Glyph drives so hopefully that will help with the render times.

I have gotten a lot of conflicting opinions on the RAM upgrade… some say FCX WILL perform faster renders as it takes advantage of multithreading (Apples official response is that FCX makes good use of ALL available RAM.. the more you have the better off you are.) Some still say additional RAM will NOT help.

So at what point do you STOP upgrading RAM? 4g? 8? 16? If upgrading does not increase render times and overall performance with FCX, where do you stop?

I’ll give one of those a shot and see how it goes. Thanks for the tip!

I am running fcp7 as well as fcpx. So fcpx would not take advantage of the additional RAM? Seems odd.

I do do a fair amount of Motion work. However I was hoping for increased performance within FCP when rendering plugin effects and other graphics within FCP. I had also assumed that render time would also come down but based on what you say. That would be incorrect?

If this is the case, how can you increase performance? This particular Mac Pro is a 2010 build.

That was my assessment… Camera issue. So having said that, is there an effective way in FCP to reduce the issue?

Pulling the key doesn’t seem to be the issue. When I look at the footage (shot with a Sony PMW200) in Quicktime straight up, it looks OK… but yes a tad dark which may be hiding the noise. When I open it in FCPX it is immediately apparent that there is something going on with the image in those black/shadowy areas. Have not gotten this footage to a broadcast monitor just yet.

Tried to play with the image in Color Corrector to no avail.

not a problem. This seems to be an issue no one seems to have any idea how to remedy. If I discover a fix I will report back.
